Colonization and spatiotemporal distribution of bruchid pests in lentil and faba bean fields. [PDF]

open access: yesPest Manag Sci
This study of 104 fields identifies Bruchus signaticornis in lentils and B. rufimanus in faba beans as the sole grain‐damaging species. Their uniform distribution within fields and the strong effect of regulatory factors on larvae and egg survival emphasize the need for species‐specific, phenology‐based and spatially informed integrated pest management

Genome-wide association study uncovers pea candidate genes and metabolic pathways involved in rust resistance. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Genome
Abstract Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important temperate legume crop providing plant‐based proteins for food and feed worldwide. Pea yield can be limited by several biotic stresses, among which rust represents a major limiting factor in many temperate and subtropical regions.

The ApHSF-ApCtf1β2-ApCUT3 Cascade Couples Host ROS Detoxification to Cuticle Penetration During Fungal Pathogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Plant Pathol
The ApHSF–ApCtf1β2–ApCUT3 transcriptional cascade links fungal adaptation to host‐derived ROS with cuticle penetration during infection. ApHSF promotes ROS detoxification and activates ApCtf1β2, which induces ApCUT3 expression and cuticle degradation, thereby coordinating oxidative stress adaptation with host barrier penetration.

Unlocking agro-ecosystem sustainability: exploring the bottom-up effects of microbes, plants, and insect herbivores. [PDF]

open access: yesIntegr Zool
Microorganism‐released metabolites, proteins, or toxins modulate plant‐based targets to regulate physiological processes such as phytohormone and nutrition balance and stress resistance. Microbes that affect plant physiological processes regulate the visual, olfactory, and gustatory cues associated with plants to attract or repel insect herbivores and ...

Mapping of Two New Rust Resistance Genes Uvf-2 and Uvf-3 in Faba Bean

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
Faba bean is gaining attention in Australia as a rotation grain legume where most of the country’s produce is exported. Rust, caused by Uromyces viciae-fabae, is a major constraint to Faba bean production in eastern Australia and its chemical control ...

Histological Characterization of Resistance to Uromyces viciae-fabae in Faba Bean [PDF]

open access: yesPhytopathology®, 2002
Components of resistance to the faba bean rust (Uromyces viciae-fabae) were studied at the histological level in seedlings and adult plants of nine faba bean (Vicia faba) lines differing in their level of resistance. Resistance of these lines was previously shown to be characterized macroscopically by an increased latent period, a decreased colony ...

Rust (Uromyces viciae-fabae Pers. de-Bary) of Pea (Pisum sativum L.): Present Status and Future Resistance Breeding Opportunities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Uromyces viciae-fabae Pers. de-Bary is an important fungal pathogen causing rust in peas (Pisum sativum L.). It is reported in mild to severe forms from different parts of the world where the pea is grown.

Wheat and faba bean intercropping and cultivar impacts on morphology, disease, and yield

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 115, Issue 6, Page 3010-3024, November/December 2023., 2023
Abstract Modern agriculture relies heavily on synthetic fertilizer and pesticide inputs. Pressure is increasing to find alternatives that reduce such inputs. In comparison to monocultures, intercropping can reduce plant diseases and increase yield, thereby reducing inputs and maximizing land use efficiency.

The severity of diseases of faba bean depending on sowing rate and variety

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Scandinavica. Section B, Soil and Plant Science, 2020
Little research has been published about the occurrence of diseases in faba bean such as chocolate spot, ascochyta blight, or rust in Northern Europe. There is also little data about the impact of sowing rate or variety on disease development. Therefore,

Modification of the existing maximum residue levels for mefentrifluconazole in various commodities

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 21, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
Abstract In accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, the applicant BASF Agro B.V. Arnhem (NL) Freienbach Branch submitted a request to the competent national authority in Austria to modify the existing maximum residue levels (MRLs) for the active substance mefentrifluconazole in various crops and swine liver and other swine products ...
