Description of four new species of marine macroalgae from Rangitāhua, New Zealand

open access: yesPhycological Research, Volume 74, Issue 2, Page 154-162, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Four species of marine macroalgae are described from Rangitāhua, the northern islands of the New Zealand archipelago. The flora of this region has been considered to have its strongest affinities with other warm‐water regions of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, with very low levels of endemism.

Taxonomic revision of the tropical African group of Carex subsect. Elatae (sect. Spirostachyae, Cyperaceae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The tropical African monophyletic group of Carex subsect. Elatae (sect. Spirostachyae) is distributed in continental tropical Africa, Madagascar, the Mascarene archipelago, and Bioko Island (32 km off the coast of West Africa, in the Gulf of Guinea ...

The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex as a potential target for electrical stimulation in the treatment of vestibular‐based nausea

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 5, Page 1773-1787, 1 March 2026.
Abstract figure legend Recent work has shown transcranial electrical stimulation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) to mitigate vestibular perceptions. Though definitive pathways require further elucidation, this interaction may be modulated by dlPFC inhibitory action on vestibular signalling in the insular cortex, thalamus and/or the ...

Application of utricle function testing in different clinical stages of Meniere’s disease

open access: yesZhongguo Linchuang Yixue
ObjectiveTo explore the role of ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential (oVEMP) and unilateral centrifugation subjective visual vertical (UC-SVV) tests in evaluating the utricular function of patients with Meniere’s disease (MD) at different clinical

Megaphylogenetic Specimen-Level Approaches to the Carex (Cyperaceae) Phylogeny Using ITS, ETS, and matK Sequences: Implications for Classification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present the first large-scale phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus Carex based on 996 of the 1983 accepted species (50.23%). We used a supermatrix approach using three DNA regions: ETS, ITS and matK.

Seagrass can mitigate negative ocean acidification effects on calcifying algae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The ultimate effect that ocean acidification (OA) and warming will have on the physiology of calcifying algae is still largely uncertain. Responses depend on the complex interactions between seawater chemistry, global/local stressors and species-specific

Distribution of Voltage‐Gated Sodium Channels and Scaffolding Proteins on Vestibular Calyx Ending Delineates the Axon Initial Segment

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 2, February 2026.
Various sodium channel isoforms and their scaffolding proteins are found in four different microdomains in vestibular calyx‐bearing afferents. These microdomains serve different purposes, analogous to the heminode, axon initial segment, and synaptic domains of other types of sensory afferents.

Analysis of subjective visual vertical test results in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo at different head deflection angles

open access: yesZhongguo Linchuang Yixue
ObjectiveTo analyze the clinical significance of subjective visual vertical (SVV) tests at different head deflection angles in assessing utricle function in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). MethodsA total of 61 BPPV patients who

Semicircular Canal Influences on the Developmental Tuning of the Translational Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
Vestibulo-ocular reflexes (VORs) rely on neuronal computations that transform vestibular sensory signals into spatio-temporally appropriate extraocular motor commands.

Preliminary Characterization of Voltage-Activated Whole-Cell Currents in Developing Human Vestibular Hair Cells and Calyx Afferent Terminals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present preliminary functional data from human vestibular hair cells and primary afferent calyx terminals during fetal development. Whole-cell recordings were obtained from hair cells or calyx terminals in semi-intact cristae prepared from human ...
