A vaccinia virus renaissance

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2012
In 1796, Edward Jenner introduced the concept of vaccination with cowpox virus, an Orthopoxvirus within the family Poxviridae that elicits cross protective immunity against related orthopoxviruses, including smallpox virus (variola virus).

The Heat Inactivation of Vaccinia Virus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1958
SUMMARY: Heat inactivation curves of vaccinia virus between 50° and 60° indicate that the virus is heterogeneous in its heat sensitivity. The proportion of heat-resistant particles varies inversely with the temperature of exposure. The inactivation of heat-sensitive virus is temperature dependent and seems to be a first-order reaction, while the heat ...

CENTRIFUGE EXPERIMENTS WITH THE VIRUS OF VACCINIA [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1930
Centrifuge experiments have been carried out with cell-free, active filtrates of vaccinia virus. The experiments have shown that the virus can be concentrated by this method, even in filtrates which have been subjected to prolonged preliminary centrifugation to throw down any inert particles which may have been present in the original filtrate.

Rescue of Synthetic Genomic RNA Analogs of Rabies Virus by Plasmid-Encoded Proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Proteins eolirely expressed from cDNA wen used to rescue synthetic RNA genome analogs into infectious defective particles or rabies virus (RV). Synthetic negative-stranded RNAs coßtalning 3' · and S'-terminal RV sequences and tnlßscriptional ...
