Colitis-associated gut–vagus–brain signaling integrates tumorigenesis and neuroinflammation: comparative regulation by vagotomy and atropine [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation
Background Colitis-associated cancer (CAC) is frequently accompanied by neuropsychiatric comorbidities, yet the underlying gut-brain signaling pathways remain elusive.

Vagotomy and the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis: a Danish register-based study [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy
Objectives Given the potential role of vagus nerve stimulation in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA), we examined the incidence of RA and osteoarthritis (OA) in patients who underwent different forms of vagotomy that disparately affect the inflammatory ...

Effects of sugammadex on heart rate variability in anesthetized male rats [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
The administration of sugammadex has been associated with bradycardia and rarely asystole; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We examined heart rate variability (HRV) as an index of autonomic nervous system activity and investigated the ...

Laparoscopy versus open surgery in truncal vagotomy with gastrojejunostomy for peptic pyloric stenosis: a retrospective study of 151 patients [PDF]

open access: yesSurgery Open Science
Background: Peptic ulcer disease continues to be a major health concern. Surgical intervention is usually reserved for complications, such as pyloric stenosis, leading to gastric outlet obstruction.

Lymphocyte Antigen 6G Mediates Vagotomy-Associated Reduction in Body Weight. [PDF]

open access: yesFASEB J
Vagotomy was associated with lower body weight and epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT) mass, as well as increased Ly6G+ cell infiltration in eWAT. This vagotomy‐associated weight loss was significantly attenuated in neutrophil‐deficient mice, suggesting Ly6G+ cells participate in the regulation of eWAT energy homeostasis.

Review of Perioperative Music Medicine: Mechanisms of Pain and Stress Reduction Around Surgery

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2022
Clinical-experimental considerations and an approach to understanding the autonomic basis of improved surgical outcomes using Perioperative Music Medicine (PMM) are reviewed. Combined surgical, psycho-physiological, and experimental perspectives on Music

Predominant role of gut-vagus-brain neuronal pathway in postoperative nausea and vomiting: evidence from an observational cohort study

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2021
Background Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) as a clinically most common postoperative complication requires multimodal antiemetic medications targeting at a wide range of neurotransmitter pathways. Lacking of neurobiological mechanism makes this ‘

GLP-1 Increases Circulating Leptin Levels in Truncal Vagotomized Rats

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
GLP-1 is a gastro-intestinal hormone acting within the gut/brain axis for energy balance regulation. We aimed to evaluate the role of the vagus nerve in whole-body energy homeostasis and in mediating GLP-1 effects.

Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation Improves Visceral Hypersensitivity and Gastric Motility and Depression-like Behaviors via Vago-Vagal Pathway in a Rat Model of Functional Dyspepsia

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2023
Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation was recently reported to have a therapeutic potential for functional dyspepsia (FD). This study aimed to explore the integrative effects and mechanisms of auricular vagus nerve stimulation (aVNS) in a ...

Pulmonary veins isolation in a patient with atrial fibrillation and pronounced vagal response: Is it enough? [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2017
Introduction. Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) by antral circumferential ablation is the standard procedure for patients with symptomatic and drug-refractory paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). In some patients addition of ganglionated plexi (GP)
