Oral Supplementation With Butyrate Improves Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury via a Gut-Brain Neural Circuit

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Objective: Butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) produced by the intestinal microbiota, plays a protective role in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), but the mechanisms involved in this process remain unelucidated.

Proximal Gastric Vagotomy Compared with Vagotomy and Antrectomy and Selective Gastric Vagotomy and Pyloroplasty

open access: yesAnnals of Surgery, 1977
A prospective, randomized study of proximal gastric vagotomy without drainage (PGV) was done in 174 adult men with chronic duodenal ulcer intractable to medical therapy. PGV was randomized against truncal vagotomy with antrectomy (TV + A) and against selective gastric vagotomy with Finney pyloroplasty (SGV + P).

Controle de qualidade da vagotomia na perfuração de úlcera duodenal.

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 1994
The efficacy of truncal vagotomy combined with pyloroplasty has been studied in 56 patients, divided into the following groups: Group I-29 patients submitted to bilateral truncal vagotomy (BTV) and pyloroplasty, as the method of treatment to solve the ...

Vagus nerve plays a pivotal role in CD4+ T cell differentiation during CVB3-induced murine acute myocarditis

open access: yesVirulence, 2021
Abnormalities in CD4+ T cell (Th cell) differentiation play an important role in the pathogenesis of viral myocarditis (VMC). Our previous studies demonstrated that activation of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAP) alleviated the inflammatory

Computational inference of chemokine-mediated roles for the vagus nerve in modulating intra- and inter-tissue inflammation

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Biology
Introduction: The vagus nerve innervates multiple organs, but its role in regulating cross-tissue spread of inflammation is as yet unclear. We hypothesized that the vagus nerve may regulate cross-tissue inflammation via modulation of the putatively ...

Establishment of a chronic aspiration pneumonia mouse model using oropharyngeal aspiration of food suspension

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Four aspiration methods (UV, IN, IT, and OA) were compared, and OA was identified as the most effective delivery technique. A chronic aspiration pneumonia model was then established through repeated OA of food suspension or gastric contents. Integrated analyses, including micro‐CT, histopathology, cytokine profiling, and RNA sequencing, revealed ...

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists and Endoscopy: Understanding Gastric Stasis, Aspiration Risk, and Contemporary Peri‐Procedural Guidance

open access: yesChronic Diseases and Translational Medicine, EarlyView.
Pharmacological mechanisms and physiologic effects of GLP‐1 receptor agonists relevant to peri‐endoscopic risk. ABSTRACT The global increase in obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has led to a higher use of glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs) among patients ...

Vagotomy Reduces Insulin Clearance in Obese Mice Programmed by Low-Protein Diet in the Adolescence

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2017
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of subdiaphragmatic vagotomy on insulin sensitivity, secretion, and degradation in metabolic programmed mice, induced by a low-protein diet early in life, followed by exposure to a high-fat diet in ...
