Invasive Fungal Infections After Intestine Transplantation: Epidemiology and Outcomes

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) represent a major complication after intestine transplantation, with reported incidence rates between 40% and 49%. These infections are associated with high morbidity and allograft loss. This study evaluates the impact of post‐transplant IFIs on graft outcomes in intestine transplant recipients ...

High burden of CMV infections after simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation—a nationwide cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Transplantation
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections remain a common problem after solid-organ transplantation. We characterized the burden of CMV infections, and adverse events of CMV prophylaxis after simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPK). We included all SPK

Isolated Kidney Transplant in Primary Hyperoxaluria‐1 Enabled by Small Interfering RNA (siRNA) Therapy. Is It Time for Change? Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesPediatric Transplantation, Volume 30, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by excessive oxalate production that leads to nephrocalcinosis or nephrolithiasis and progressive kidney failure, associated with systemic oxalosis that is not reversed by dialysis. Pharmacological treatment is limited.

Impact of Doxycycline Prophylaxis on Reducing Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma‐Related Complications in Lung Transplant Recipients

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, Volume 28, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Doxycycline prophylaxis in lung transplant recipients was associated with reduced hyperammonemia syndrome and shorter ventilation, ICU, and hospital stays. These findings suggest that doxycycline prophylaxis may help prevent Ureaplasma/Mycoplasma‐related morbidity.

Cytomegalovirus prophylaxis using low-dose and ultra-low-dose valganciclovir for patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: A retrospective study

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objective Cytomegalovirus reactivation is a clinically significant complication after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Valganciclovir is commonly used for cytomegalovirus prophylaxis; however, the optimal dosing strategy remains ...

Pre-Transplant Frequencies of FoxP3+CD25+ in CD3+CD8+ T Cells as Potential Predictors for CMV in CMV-Intermediate Risk Kidney Transplant Recipients

open access: yesTransplant International
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection detrimentally influences graft survival in kidney transplant recipients, with the risk primarily determined by recipient and donor serostatus. However, recipient CD8+ T cells play a crucial role in CMV control. The optimal

Less renal allograft fibrosis with valganciclovir prophylaxis for cytomegalovirus compared to high-dose valacyclovir: a parallel group, open-label, randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2018
Background Cytomegalovirus (CMV) prophylaxis may prevent CMV indirect effects in renal transplant recipients. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of valganciclovir and valacyclovir prophylaxis for CMV after renal transplantation with the focus on ...

Does Cytomegalovirus Develop Resistance following Antiviral Prophylaxis and Treatment in Renal Transplant Patients in Kuwait?

open access: yesAdvances in Virology, 2011
The resistance of cytomegalovirus (CMV) to ganciclovir or valganciclovir is a factor in therapeutic failure and disease progression. CMV strains resistant to ganciclovir or valganciclovir have been associated with specific mutations in the UL97 and UL54 ...
