An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

An Adaptive Dark-Target Algorithm for Retrieving Land AOD Applied to FY-4B/AGRI Data

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The Fengyun 4B (FY-4B) as an operational satellite was launched on 3 June 2021. The advanced geostationary radiation imager (AGRI) aboard on the FY-4B has ability to monitor aerosols information.

Behavioural study of PEMFC during start-up/shutdown cycling for aeronautic applications

open access: yesMaterials for Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2019
The deployment of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) for aeronautic applications is a value-added energy supply alternative that not only generates useful byproducts (oxygen-depleted air, water and heat) but addresses sensitive issues such as ...

On Legal Validity

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents a theoretical account of legal validity. We begin with a very simple criterial account of validity and discuss the possibility of elimination of such concept by means of procedure described in Ross' paper Tû-Tû. Then we discuss more ambitious theoretical proposals concerning validity, advocated by Grabowski and ...

Ecological Validity of Performance Validity Testing [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Clinical Neuropsychology, 2014
Performance validity tests (PVTs) have been shown to relate to neuropsychological performance, but no studies have looked at the ecological validity of these measures. Data from 131 veterans with a history of mild traumatic brain injury from a multicenter Veterans Administration consortium were examined to determine the relation between scores on a ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Application of Deep Convective Clouds in the Calibration and Response Monitoring of the Reflective Solar Bands of FY-3A/MERSI (Medium Resolution Spectral Imager)

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2013
Based on simulated reflectance, deep convective clouds (DCC) can be used as an invariant target to monitor the radiometric response degradation of the FY-3A/MERSI (Medium Resolution Spectral Imager) reflective solar bands (RSBs).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Asprosin Aggravates Tubular Epithelial Cell Injury and Phenotypic Transformation via Mitochondrial Dynamics Disorder Mediated by Excessive Drp1 SUMOylation in Diabetic Nephropathy Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Epidemiological studies show that some diabetic patients develop end‐stage renal dysfunction without significant proteinuria or glomerulopathy, underscoring the role of renal tubular epithelial cell (TEC) impairment in diabetic kidney disease (DKD ...
