Description of an Enterococcus faecium genotype vanB outbreak in a hospitalization ward
Abstract Background and objectives: Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) infections have increased in the last years. Hospital outbreaks have been described with a challenging microbiological diagnosis and control of the transmission.

In Vivo Development of Teicoplanin Resistance in a VanB Enterococcus faecium Isolate
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1993Acquired vancomycin resistance in enterococci may be associated with teicoplanin susceptibility (VanB) or teicoplanin resistance (VanA). This paper characterizes the first instance of in vivo emergence of teicoplanin resistance in an Enterococcus faecium strain of VanB phenotype. Vancomycin-resistant (MIC, 256/512 micrograms/mL) E. faecium was isolated

Rapid detection of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) carriers could be useful to health care facilities to minimize transmission. To that end, we compared the performance of the Cepheid GeneXpert vanA/vanB assay with that of direct and broth-enriched culture methods for detection of VRE from perianal swabs.

Outbreak of vanB vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium colonization in a neonatal service
American Journal of Infection Control, 2015To describe successful termination of an outbreak of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) colonization within a neonatal service.Multisite neonatal intensive care unit and special care nurseries within a single health care service.Forty-four cases of VREfm-colonized neonatal inpatients-including 2 clinical isolates (eye swab and catheter ...

Identification of VanB-Type Vancomycin Resistance in Enterococcus gallinarum from Japan
Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy, 1996In late January 1996, pus obtained from a periproctal abscess on an acute myeloid leukemia patient in Toho University Omori Hospital yielded Enterococcus gallinarum strain TUH327. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the agar dilution method showed that this strain was resistant to low levels of vancomycin but remained susceptible to teicoplanin ...

The vanB Gene Confers Various Levels of Self-Transferable Resistance to Vancomycin in Enterococci
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1993Thirty-nine strains of Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis resistant to vancomycin and susceptible to teicoplanin on disk susceptibility testing (phenotypic class B) were isolated in 15 hospitals in Europe and the United States. The MICs of vancomycin for these strains ranged from 4 to 1024 micrograms/mL.

Vancomycin‐resistant enterococci with vanA and vanB genes in Australian gulls
Environmental Microbiology Reports, 2017Summary This study is revealing the possible dissemination of vancomycin‐resistant enterococci (VRE) from humans into the wildlife. We studied silver gulls ( Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae ) in Australia as potential carriers and reservoirs of VRE with acquired vancomycin ...

We report the detection and characterization of the first vancomycin-resistant VanB-type Enterococcus faecium to be isolated in a Spanish hospital. Sequence analysis of the vanB gene showed that this isolate belonged to subtype vanB2. Moreover, PCR amplification analysis indicated that the vanB gene cluster was linked to a Tn5382-like transposon.

Vancomycin-susceptible dairy and clinical enterococcal isolates carry vanA and vanB genes
International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2007A total of 109 enterococcal isolates from dairy food products and from human and dog infections, isolated in Portugal, and 26 type and reference strains of the genus Enterococcus were screened for vancomycin resistance. MIC values, both for vancomycin and teicoplanin, were determined. The genetic relatedness of isolates carrying either vanA and/or vanB
