Soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 contributes to the corneal antiangiogenic barrier [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 2006
Pathological neovascularisation within the normally avascular cornea is a serious event that can interfere with normal vision. Upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been associated with neovascularisation in the eye, suggesting that maintaining low levels of VEGF is important for corneal avascularity and intact vision.

Vascular Targeted Agents for the Treatment of Angiosarcoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Angiogenesis is the process of new blood vessel formation, and is regulated by angiogenic growth factors including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Angiosarcomas are rare, aggressive vascular tumours.

VEGF family members : modulators of tumor angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Members of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family and their receptors (VEGFR) play an essential role in the development and maintenance of the blood and lymphatic vasculature.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Quantitative analysis of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1 and 2 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Medicine Reports, 2009
Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) is a key regulator of angiogenesis that binds to the receptors VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2. It is well known that VEGF-A levels are increased in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissue compared to normal colorectal tissue, but little is known regarding the expression of the VEGFR-1 and -2 receptors.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Premetastatic Lung “Niche”: Is Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 1 Activation Required? [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Research, 2010
Abstract Inflammatory pathways may mediate preparation of the “metastatic soil” in the lungs. Some of these pathways—activation and/or the recruitment of certain inflammatory cells—might depend on vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR1) activity.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.
