Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2005
The vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2/KDR/flk-1) functions as the primary mediator of vascular endothelial growth factor activation in endothelial cells. Regulation of VEGFR-2 expression appears critical in mitogenesis, differentiation, and angiogenesis.

Transcriptional profiling reveals fundamental differences in iPS-derived progenitors of endothelial cells (PECs) versus adult circulating EPCs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
There are a number of different stem cell sources that have the potential to be used as therapeutics in vascular degenerative diseases. On the one hand, there are so called endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), which are typically derived from adult blood. They carry the marker CD34, but the true nature and definition of EPCs is still controversial.

Shared features of endothelial dysfunction between sepsis and its preceding risk factors (aging and chronic disease) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Acute vascular endothelial dysfunction is a central event in the pathogenesis of sepsis, increasing vascular permeability, promoting activation of the coagulation cascade, tissue edema and compromising perfusion of vital organs. Aging and chronic diseases(hypertension, dyslipidaemia, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease ...

Monomeric gremlin is a novel vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 antagonist

open access: yesOncotarget, 2016
Angiogenesis plays a key role in various physiological and pathological conditions, including inflammation and tumor growth. The bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) antagonist gremlin has been identified as a novel pro-angiogenic factor. Gremlin promotes neovascular responses via a BMP-independent activation of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)

Elevated Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2 Abundance Contributes to Increased Angiogenesis in Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-1–Deficient Mice [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2012
Background— Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 (VEGFR-1/Flt-1) is a potential therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases, but its role in angiogenesis remains controversial. Whereas germline Vegfr-1 −/− embryos die of abnormal vascular development in ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Effect of Exercise Training on Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Its Receptor Gene Expression in Cardiac Tissue of Type 2 Diabetic Rats [PDF]

open access: yesMajallah-i dānishgāh-i ̒ulūm-i pizishkī-i Arāk, 2018
Background and Aim: Type 2 diabetes is one of the effective and inhibiting factors in controlling blood glucose and vascular disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the gene expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and ...

The effect of magnesium sulfate on gene expression in maternal microvascular endothelial cells

open access: yesHypertension in Pregnancy, 2018
Preeclampsia is a severe complication of pregnancy associated with maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. To date, magnesium sulfate remains the preferred method of treatment used to reduce the development of eclampsia.

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2-Mediated Mitogenesis Is Negatively Regulated by Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-1 in Tumor Epithelial Cells [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Pathology, 2001
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptors are present on nonendothelial cells suggesting that VEGF may mediate nonendothelial effects during organogenesis and tumorigenesis. Here we show that VEGF receptor-1 (VEGFR-1) negatively regulates VEGFR-2-mediated proliferation via nitric oxide (NO) in an epithelial cancer cell line ECV304.
