Hypercholesterolemia-induced increase in plasma oxidized LDL abrogated pro angiogenic response in kidney grafts

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2019
Background Renal transplantation is increasingly associated with the presence of comorbidity factors such as dyslipidemia which could influence the graft outcome.

Growth factors acting via endothelial cell-specific receptor tyrosine kinases: VEGFs, angiopoietins, and ephrins in vascular development.

open access: yesGenes & Development, 1999
The term ‘vasculogenesis’ refers to the earliest stages of vascular development, during which vascular endothelial cell precursors undergo differentiation, expansion, and coalescence to form a network of primitive tubules (Risau 1997).

The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Novel targeted agents for the treatment of bladder cancer: translating laboratory advances into clinical application

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2010
Bladder cancer is a common and frequently lethal cancer. Natural history studies indicate two distinct clinical and molecular entities corresponding to invasive and non-muscle invasive disease.

The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family: angiogenic factors in health and disease

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2005
SummaryVascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs) are a family of secreted polypeptides with a highly conserved receptor-binding cystine-knot structure similar to that of the platelet-derived growth factors. VEGF-A, the founding member of the family, is

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Escaping Antiangiogenic Therapy: Strategies Employed by Cancer Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Indexación: Web of ScienceTumor angiogenesis is widely recognized as one of the hallmarks of cancer. Consequently, during the last decades the development and testing of commercial angiogenic inhibitors has been a central focus for both basic and ...

MicroRNAs Control Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Signaling [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation Research, 2012
Angiogenesis is a very tightly controlled process, in which endothelial cells need to migrate and proliferate toward ischemic tissue. A long-known factor that provides a gradient for endothelial cells to migrate toward is vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).1 Carefully titrated levels of VEGF are crucial for blood vessel development, because even

Impact of APOE ε4 Genotype Load on Cognitive Function and Lipid Metabolism in Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Apolipoprotein ε4 (APOE ε4) is a potent genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its role in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. Given the clinical and pathological similarities between CSVD and AD, this study aimed to investigate the associations of APOE ε4 gene dosage with cognitive function and
