Challenges and opportunities in vascularized composite allotransplantation of joints: a systematic literature review. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Immunol, 2023
BackgroundJoint allotransplantation (JA) within the field of vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) holds great potential for functional and non-prosthetic reconstruction of severely damaged joints.

Preconditioned Mesenchymal Stromal Cells to Improve Allotransplantation Outcome

open access: yesCells, 2021
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are tissue-derived progenitor cells with immunomodulatory as well as multilineage differentiation capacities, and have been widely applied as cellular therapeutics in different disease systems in both preclinical models ...

Latissimus Dorsi Myocutaneous Flap Procedure in a Swine Model

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Surgery, 2021
Background As surgical research expands in both breadth and scope, translational models become increasingly important. The accessibility, reproducibility, and clinical applicability of translational models is of vital importance to ensure adequate and ...

Randomized preclinical study of machine perfusion in vascularized composite allografts

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study was designed to identify the optimum machine perfusion parameters for preservation of limbs before transplantation, and determine whether this was better than cold storage. Normothermic machine perfusion at a pressure of 70 mmHg (NMP‐70) provided superior preservation to cold storage after transplantation.

Treatment with selective transcatheter arterial embolization of a ruptured profunda artery perforator after internal thigh liposuction: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2023
Background Hemorrhage is an uncommon complication of liposuction that may be trauma-induced by the cannula on the subcutaneous perforators. It usually resolves spontaneously with external compression and results in mild to moderate ecchymosis on the ...

Costimulation Blockade in Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Vascular composite allotransplantation (VCA) is a field under research and has emerged as an alternative option for the repair of severe disfiguring defects that result from infections or traumatic amputation in a selected group of patients. VCA is performed in centers with appropriate expertise, experience and adequate resources to effectively manage ...

Predicting Outcomes of Rat Vascularized Composite Allotransplants through Quantitative Measurement of Chimerism with PCR-Amplified Short Tandem Repeat

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, 2020
Chimerism has been associated with the induction and maintenance of tolerance to vascularized composite allotransplants (VCA). Although most VCA studies have examined chimerism using flow cytometry, we proposed that precision in the measurement of ...

Towards Optimizing Sub-Normothermic Machine Perfusion in Fasciocutaneous Flaps: A Large Animal Study

open access: yesBioengineering, 2023
Machine perfusion has developed rapidly since its first use in solid organ transplantation. Likewise, reconstructive surgery has kept pace, and ex vivo perfusion appears as a new trend in vascularized composite allotransplants preservation. In autologous

A New Rat Model for Orthotopic Abdominal Wall Allotransplantation

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2014
Background: Abdominal wall, one of the most commonly transplanted composite tissues, is less researched and lacking animal models. Its clinical necessities were emphasized in multiple case series to reconstruct large abdominal defects.
