Veal calf waste characteristics
Agricultural Wastes, 1983Abstract Effluent samples obtained from five veal operations in northern California over a 12-week period were chemically analyzed. Total Solids produced per day per livestock weight were about 20% of that estimated for beef feeders. The percentages of Volatile Solids and N, P, K nutrients were also considerably lower but the aerobic biodegradability

The dietary electrolyte balance in veal calf nutrition
Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, 1990ZusammenfassungDer Einfluß von Kationen‐Anionen (Im)Balancen beim Mastkalb96 rotweiße männliche Mastkälber erhielten nach 2‐wöchiger Fütterung mit einem Starterfutter 5 verschiedene Rationen. Dabei wurden zu einer Kontrolldiät NaHCO3 (1,15%), KHCO3 (1,36%), (NH4)2SO4 (0,86%) oder NH4Cl (0,73%) zugesetzt.

Veterinary Record, 1982
Compared to France, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany the production of white veal in the United Kingdom is relatively limited. Nevertheless, public interest in veal calf welfare appears to be lively. Although calves are sucklings of social-living ruminants, veal calves are not allowed to suck, to have a social life or to ruminate.

Veal Calf Waste Production and Composition
Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 1989Volume and composition of fresh waste were deter-mined from 12 newborn male Holstein veal calves during a 14-week trial. Total waste (feces and urine) was collected daily from beneath the slatted floors of each individual wooden calf pen, weighed, and a subsample obtained for analysis. Daily composite aliquots of fresh waste from all calves were placed

Veal calf health on the day of arrival at growers in Ohio
Journal of Animal Science, 2017Veal calves are at high risk for disease and mortality in early life. Calves face a number of stressors before arriving at the grower, including long transport times, which may contribute to poor health. Our objectives were to 1) estimate the prevalence of poor health outcomes in veal calves on arrival at growers in Ohio; 2) determine risk factors for ...

Methanol-fermentation protein in veal calf nutrition
Animal Feed Science and Technology, 1976Abstract In an experiment with 4 × 12 male veal calves, the influence of 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5% ICI protein and sweet whey powder in a milk replacer on growth; feed efficiency; blood concentrations of urea, uric acid and allantoin; and on the iron status, colour of the meat and carcass grade of the animals was investigated.
