Conventional vegetable oil mills are complex plants, processing oil, fruits, or seeds to vegetable fats and oils of high quality and predefined properties. Nearly all by-products are used. However, most of the high valuable plant substances occurring in oil fruits or seeds besides the oil are used only in low price applications (proteins as animal ...

Lactones in autoxidized vegetable oils
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1967AbstractIt was demonstrated that bothgamma anddelta saturated lactones are present in highly peroxidized vegetable oils. In the oils which were investigated thegamma isomers are predominant. Additional lactones also form when the hydroperoxides are reduced.

Allergenicity of refined vegetable oils
Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2000Several commercially important refined vegetable oils are derived from plants which are recognized as potent food allergens (e.g. peanut, soy). Full refining of oils results in the almost complete removal from oils of protein, which is responsible for allergic reactions.

Miscellaneous Additives and Vegetable Oils
1997Friction modifiers or friction reducers have been established for several years. Originally the application was for gear oils, transmission fluids, slideway lubricants (for elimination of stick-slip from slideways) and multipurpose tractor fluids for wet brakes, etc., in fact anywhere where controlled movement is required.

Because of the widespread use of diets low in saturated fats, many patients are restricted to the use of skim milk as a substitute for whole milk. Many of these same patients are instructed to take vegetable oil as a substitute for animal fat. The following recipe for a vegetable-oil milk was devised to meet the foregoing requirements and to provide ...

Lipid Composition of Vegetable Oils
1971Publisher Summary This chapter provides an overview of lipid composition of vegetable oils. Fatty acids present in free or bound forms in vegetable oils usually have straight chains, an even number of carbon atoms, and are monocarboxylic; odd-numbered acids occur rather rarely and occur always in trace amounts. Branched-chain fatty acids have not yet

Vegetal oils as substitute for mineral oils
Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (Cat. No.03CH37417), 2004Investigations on food quality vegetal oils have shown favorable dielectric characteristics as insulating material for electrical devices. In order to comply with possible applications, characterizations of different seed oils and chemical derivatives have been carried out.

Detection of Phytonadione in Vegetable Oil
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1982A simple detection test for phytonadione (vitamin K1) in vegetable oil is presented. A saturated sodium ethoxide solution was used to saponify vegetable oil and react with the freed phytonadione to form a blue compound. The specificity and mechanism of the colored compound formation is discussed.
