A mathematical model for breath gas analysis of volatile organic compounds with special emphasis on acetone

open access: yes, 2010
Recommended standardized procedures for determining exhaled lower respiratory nitric oxide and nasal nitric oxide have been developed by task forces of the European Respiratory Society and the American Thoracic Society.

Early Radiation Therapy Response Assessment Using Multi‐Scale Photoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tomographic and mesoscopic photoacoustics capture intratumoural features of radioresistance and response. ABSTRACT There is a critical unmet clinical need to identify biomarkers that predict and detect radiation therapy (RT) response in cancer. Using the unique capabilities of multi‐scale photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to depict tumor oxygenation and ...

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.

Respiratory‐Limbic Coupling via a Thalamic Circuit Alleviates Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study delineates a conserved preBötCGlu→PVT→CeA circuit that gates anxiety and respiration. Activation of this circuit is anxiolytic and respiratory‐stabilizing, while its inhibition has the opposite effect. Mechanistically, PVT exerts its anxiolytic action via a disinhibitory microcircuit: its inputs preferentially target CeL GABAergic neurons ...

Revisiting atelectasis in lung units with low ventilation/perfusion ratios [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physiology, 2019
Patients on high inspired O 2 concentrations are at risk of atelectasis, a problem that has been quantitatively assessed using analysis of ratio of ventilation to perfusion (V̇a/Q̇) equations.

Ventilation-Perfusion Ratio in Perflubron During Partial Liquid Ventilation

open access: yesAnesthesia & Analgesia, 2010
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of fluorine-19 allows for the mapping of oxygen partial pressure within perfluorocarbons in the alveolar space (Pao(2)). Theoretically, fMRI-detected Pao(2) can be combined with the Fick principle approach, i.e., a mass balance of oxygen uptake by ventilation and delivery by perfusion, to quantify the ...

Simultaneous observations of haemolymph flow and ventilation in marine spider crabs at different temperatures: a flow weighted MRI study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
In vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and angiography were applied to the marine spider crab Maja squinado for a study of temperature effects and thermal tolerance.

Neuronal Cholesterol Deficiency Mediated by Astrocytic SREBP2 Downregulation Leads to Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction Through Impairment of Hippocampal Synaptic Plasticity and Excitatory Synaptic Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The results showed that the reduction of plasma 24‐hydroxycholesterol (24‐OHC) was related to the cognitive decline in elderly surgical patients. Neuroinflammation induced by anesthesia and surgery significantly downregulated SREBP2 in hippocampal reactive astrocytes, resulting in reduced cholesterol synthesis.

PaO2/FiO2 relationship as a success predictor in non-invasive ventilation

open access: yesRevista Electrónica Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta, 2018
Hypoxemia represents a drastic consequence of numerous diseases. It is imperative that the physician count on all the tools needed to assess it effectively and early.

Faal Paru Statis [Static Lung Function]

open access: yesJurnal Respirasi, 2016
Respiration or breathing is the body’s attempt to meet the needs of O2 in the metabolic process and emit CO2 as a result of intermediary metabolism by lung and respiratory organs together so that the resulting cardiovascular oxygen rich blood ...
