Protective function of DJ-1/PARK7 in lipopolysaccharide and ventilator-induced acute lung injury
Oxidative stress is considered one of the early underlying contributors of acute lung injury (ALI) and ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). DJ-1, also known as PARK7, has a well-established role as an antioxidant.

Leukocyte sequestration in pulmonary microvessels and lung injury following systemic complement activation in rabbits [PDF]
Inflammatory reactions are associated with sequestration of leukocytes in the lung. Complement activation leads to accumulation of leukocytes in alveolar septa and alveoli, to lung edema and hemorrhage.

The membrane‐active peptide Pep19‐2.5 reduces harmful inflammation by blocking activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome at trans‐Golgi network membranes. By targeting key membrane interactions, Pep19‐2.5 suppresses inflammatory IL‐1β production and alleviates allergic airway inflammation in mice, leading to reduced immune cell infiltration and improved ...

Ventilator Induced Lung Injury [PDF]
Severe physical-trauma can lead to the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Currently, the only known treatment for ARDS is mechanical ventilation.

This study unveils a novel antibacterial mechanism against MRSA, in which the compound Py‐27 selectively targets and inhibits aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase), a key enzyme in pyrimidine synthesis. This inhibition disrupts DNA replication, induces oxidative damage, leading to potent bactericidal activity.

Oxygen administration for patients with ARDS
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a fatal condition with insufficiently clarified etiology. Supportive care for severe hypoxemia remains the mainstay of essential interventions for ARDS.

High glucose is linked to reduced succinate dehydrogenase activity in CD14+ monocytes, accompanied by succinate accumulation and extracellular release. Extracellular succinate exacerbates mitochondrial ROS production and mtDNA release in CD4+ T cells. Cytosolic mtDNA then activates Z‐DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1) and engages ZBP1‐associated inflammatory

Platelet-activating factor receptor plays a role in lung injury and death caused by influenza A in mice [PDF]
Influenza A virus causes annual epidemics which affect millions of people worldwide. A recent Influenza pandemic brought new awareness over the health impact of the disease.

Progress of mechanical power in the intensive care unit
. Mechanical power of ventilation, currently defined as the energy delivered from the ventilator to the respiratory system over a period of time, has been recognized as a promising indicator to evaluate ventilator-induced lung injury and predict the ...
