Excitatory amino acid receptors in the ventral tegmental area regulate dopamine release in the ventral striatum

open access: yes, 1996
The role of excitatory amino acid (EAA) receptors located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) in tonic and phasic regulation of dopamine release in the ventral striatum was investigated. Microdialysis in conscious rats was used to assess dopamine release

Developing the Dopamine D3 Receptor (D3R) Antagonist, (R)‐VK4‐116, as a Non‐Opioid Medication for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Opioid use disorder (OUD) remains a major global health challenge, and currently approved treatments (methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone) are all opioid receptor‐targeting drugs with limitations in access, adherence, stigma, and use in polysubstance use disorders. Because the dopamine D3 receptor (D3R) is enriched in limbic brain regions

As bases neuroanatômicas do comportamento: histórico e contribuições recentes Neuroanatomical basis of behavior: history and recent contributions

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Psychiatry, 2007
Tendo em vista as mais recentes contribuições, as áreas corticais límbicas - originalmente denominadas em conjunto de grande lobo límbico -, além dos giros do cíngulo e parahipocampal, são constituídas pelas regiões mais posteriores do córtex fronto ...

Distinctive Roles for the Ventral Striatum and Ventral Prefrontal Cortex during Decision-Making [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 2008
A problem well known to most cognitive neuroscientists, particularly those in brain imaging, is one of correlation. In designing a task to distinguish the function of a given brain region, how can we be sure that the activity we observe does not merely correlate with another, superior descriptor ...

Chromatin Accessibility Profiling of the Canine Brain Reveals Regulatory Programs Associated With Dog‐Wolf Divergence and Human Psychiatric Risk

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The dog is a valuable model for studying social behavior and neuropsychiatric disease. We generated an ATAC‐seq atlas of 7 brain regions and pituitary from 4 beagles, identifying 251,492 CREs. Integrating dog‐wolf divergence revealed tissue‐specific CREs overlapping divergent loci, including neuronal and neuroendocrine genes.

Lhx6 regulates the migration of cortical interneurons from the ventral telencephalon but does not specify their GABA phenotype [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The LIM homeodomain family of transcription factors is involved in many processes in the developing CNS, ranging from cell fate specification to connectivity.

Neural Encoding in Ventral Striatum during Olfactory Discrimination Learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A growing body of evidence implicates the ventral striatum in using information acquired through associative learning. The present study examined the activity of ventral striatal neurons in awake, behaving rats during go/no-go odor discrimination ...

Brain reward function in young people with cannabis use disorder: A functional magnetic resonance imaging study

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Aims Cannabis use disorder (CUD) affects ~50 million people globally. Neuroscientific theories suggest that a blunted neural response to non‐drug rewards is a hallmark of substance use disorders; however, this remains untested in CUD. The current study tested whether brain reward system responses to the anticipation and feedback

Morning resting hypothalamus-dorsal striatum connectivity predicts individual differences in diurnal sleepiness accumulation

open access: yesNeuroImage
While the significance of obtaining restful sleep at night and maintaining daytime alertness is well recognized for human performance and overall well-being, substantial variations exist in the development of sleepiness during diurnal waking periods ...
