The bacterial Type VI secretion system (T6SS) emerges as a sophisticated virulence mechanism, leveraging the dual‐function effector TkeA from Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. TkeA concurrently damages rival bacteria and host cell DNA, triggering the host's cGAS‐STING‐TNF pathway and inducing apoptosis.

Cyanophage Infections in a Sponge Intracellular Cyanobacterial Symbiont
Intracellular cyanobacterial symbionts of sponges are shown to be susceptible to cyanophages, challenging assumptions about their isolation from viral exposure. The study reveals novel phage–host interactions and suggests conserved infection strategies across symbionts of marine and terrestrial animals.

Type VI secretion systems (T6SSs) are macromolecular assemblies that deliver toxic effector proteins between adjacent bacteria. These effectors span a wide range of protein families that all lack canonical signal sequences that would target them for ...

WGS identified 27 wzi allele types (2 new), 16 K antigen serotypes, 6 O antigen serotypes, 25 sequence types (3 new), 39 antibiotic resistance and 57 virulence genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae from milk samples of cows with and without mastitis. Phylogenetic analysis showed high genomic diversity in K. pneumoniae.

Type VI secretion: a beginner's guide [PDF]
Type VI secretion is a newly described mechanism for protein transport across the cell envelope of Gram-negative bacteria. Components that have been partially characterised include an IcmF homologue, the ATPase ClpV, a regulatory FHA domain protein and ...

An Overview of Anti-Eukaryotic T6SS Effectors
The type VI secretion system (T6SS) is a transmembrane multiprotein nanomachine employed by many Gram-negative bacterial species to translocate, in a contact-dependent manner, effector proteins into adjacent prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells.

VgrG-BlaTEM-1 fusions can be secreted into the supernatant.
Top panels: the gene encoding BlaTEM-1 (orange) was fused to (A) vgrG1a and (B) vgrG4b, while each downstream region on the chromosome was left unaltered.
