Free Vibrations of Spatial Bodies with Elastic Properties of Low Symmetry

International Applied Mechanics, 2002
In this paper the author proposes a solution of the problem on free oscillations of spatial bodies with anisotropy of general type. The question is considered whether it is rightful to neglect the ``mixed'' elastic constants in the calculation of natural frequencies of anisotropic elements.

Forced Vibration of a Body on an Elastic Stratum

Journal of Applied Mechanics, Transactions ASME, 1957
Abstract The paper considers the forced vibration of a body with a circular base resting on a homogeneous elastic stratum of infinite surface area and constant depth. The body is subjected to a vertical disturbing force along the axis of symmetry.

Rolling/Sliding of a Vibrating Elastic Body on an Elastic Substrate

Journal of Tribology, 1996
Abstract The rolling/sliding in the presence of friction of a vibrating elastic body on an elastic substrate is studied. It is shown that the longitudinal components of the velocity of the center of mass of the body and of the resultant frictional force are not affected by the vibration process.

Free vibrations of a polar elastic body

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2006
This paper concerns certain features of the equations governing the time-harmonic free vibrations of a polar elastic body. The governing equations of micropolar elasticity are expressed in differential form; then, the uniqueness in their solutions is investigated.

Vibrational modes of submerged elastic bodies

Applied Acoustics, 1994
Abstract A useful definition of a mode of vibration is considered that is generally applicable to fluid-loaded structures. Some of the relevant background on fluid-solid modes is reviewed, in particular in relation to scattering theory. Through several examples, several key characteristics of fluid-solid systems are demonstrated: 1.

On the forced vibrations of elastic bodies in contact

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1971
Abstract The forced vibrations of two elastic bodies having a surface of contact are investigated within the framework of the classical, linear theory of elasticity. The representations for the displacements and stresses consist of two parts, namely, a quasi-static and a dynamic portion.

Forced Vibration of a Rotating Elastic Body

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1952
In a previous paper the writer has shown how equations for the free vibration of a rotating body may be obtained; in the present paper the inclusion of forcing terms in the equations is allowed for, and the effect of damping forces within the body and also in the medium in which the body rotates is considered.

Non-linearly Forced Vibrations of Elastic Systems Carrying Rigid Bodies

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1994
Abstract A general theory is derived for forced one-dimensional elastic systems carrying elastically or rigidly mounted rigid bodies by using the Lagrangian approach. The theory is applied for the prototype monopode system with one discrete rotational degree of freedom acted on by the non-linear force of a moving ice floe.

Vibration of rigid bodies on semi-infinite elastic media

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1965
Abstract This mixed boundary-value problem gives rise to a set of dual integral equations which have not hitherto been solved. Four cases are analysed: the vertical translation and rotation about an axis normal to the surface of a rigid circular body and the vertical translation and rocking of an infinitely long rigid rectangular body.
