Reduction of Toxicity of a Vinca Alkaloid by an Anti-Vinca Alkaloid Antibody

Cancer Investigation, 1995
Inadvertent oncolytic overdoses occur rarely, but can have serious consequences. We have investigated the possibility of using an antibody, 27.8.1A, reactive with vinca alkaloids, as a means of reducing the toxicity associated with overdose situations.

Alkaloids of Vinca major

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 1977
1. From the epigeal part ofVinca major have been isolated the known bases akuammicine, vincamajine, vincamajoridine, and ervine, and the new alkaloid majorinine with the composition C22H24N2O4, mp 195–196°C.

Alkaloids from Vinca major

Phytochemistry, 1995
Abstract Chemical investigations of the aerial parts of Vinca major have resulted in the isolation of two new alkaloids, 10-methoxyperakine and vincawajine. Another alkaloid, 10-methoxyvinorine, is reported for the first time from this species. The structures were determined using spectroscopic techniques.

Vindesine: A New Vinca Alkaloid

1980
Vindesine (VDS) is an analogue of the vinca alkaloids. Its spectrum of antitumoral activity is similar to that of vincristine (VCR), but with milder experimental neurotoxicity, and it inhibits the polymerization of tubulin. Its terminal half-life is 24 h and its plasma clearance is intermediate between those of vinblastine (VLB) and VCR.

Labeling Changes for Vinca Alkaloid Chemotherapies

AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 2021
The labeling for vinca alkaloid chemotherapy drugs is being revised to remove instructions for their administration with use of a syringe. This revision is in response to inadvertent intrathecal administration of vinca alkaloids, which is normally fatal.

The Vinca Alkaloids

2010
The periwinkle plant, Cantharanthus roseus G. Don (Vinca rosea Linn.) is endemic to the island of Madagascar, and has long been ascribed a wide assortment of medicinal properties ranging from the treatment of diabetes to wound healing. Of the over fifty alkaloids present in minute quantities within the plant, only two (vincristine and vinblastine) have

Plant Alkaloids: The Vinca Alkaloids

1989
Although a large number of compounds from a wide variety of plants have been tested for antitumor activity, none has played a more vital role in cancer chemotherapy than the vinca alkaloids. These compounds are present in minute quantities in the plant Catharanthus roseus G. Don (Vinca rosea Linn.), commonly called the periwinkle.

[Vinca alkaloid and MDR1].

Gan to kagaku ryoho. Cancer & chemotherapy, 2008
Vinca alkaloids inhibit microtubule formation by binding to tubulin. There are four clinically available vinca alkaloids including vincristine, vinblastine, vindesine, and vinorelbine. P-glycoprotein(P-gp)is the one of the efflux adenosine triphosphate(ATP)-binding cassette family transporters and is the encoded product of MDR1 gene.
