Beyond the Kidney and Lung: Cutaneous and Mucosal Clues to Human Hantavirus Disease
Rodent exposure and aerosolized excreta can lead to hantavirus infection with systemic endothelial injury and capillary leak, resulting in thrombocytopenia and syndromes such as HPS/HCPS and HFRS/NE. Early dermatologic and mucosal findings, including flushing, conjunctival injection, petechiae/purpura, and mucosal bleeding, may provide important clues ...

Liver‐resident NK cells (CD49a+ NK cells) in rhesus macaques display distinct activating receptor and metabolic markers enhanced phenotype compared with hepatic NK cell subsets (CD49a−) in the liver. These cells exhibit heightened cytokine polyfunctionality with restrained cytotoxic responses upon mitogen stimulation in comparison with CD49a− NK cell ...

This study investigates the impact of switching to long‐acting (LA) injectable cabotegravir and rilpivirine (CAB/RPV‐LA) on immune‐activation and ‐senescence in people with HIV (PWH). Thirty‐seven PWH switching to CAB/RPV‐LA and nine continuing oral ART were analysed over 72 weeks. LA therapy led to significant reductions in activation T and senescence

Dynamics of HIV Reservoir and HIV-1 Viral Splicing in HCV-Exposed Individuals after Elimination with DAAs or Spontaneous Clearance [PDF]
Background: Although human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) reservoir size is very stable under antiretroviral therapy (ART), individuals exposed to the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) (chronically coinfected and spontaneous clarifiers) show an increase in ...

Bats as Reservoirs of Viral Zoonoses
2021In the last few decades, a special interest in viruses hosted by bats arose after links with zoonoses of public health importance emerged. A dramatic increase in documented viral diversity in bats has occurred with an increasing difficulty in interpretation of results and risk assessments.
