HIV-1 in genital compartments: vexing viral reservoirs.

Current opinion in HIV and AIDS, 2009
To delineate the fundamental aspects of HIV-1 in genital secretions such as virus origins, dynamics, and modifiable factors and their effects on viral reservoirs in the male and female genital compartments. The transmission rate of HIV-1 per sexual encounter is relatively small.

HIV-1 Myeloid Reservoirs — Contributors to Viral Persistence and Pathogenesis

Current HIV/AIDS Reports
HIV reservoirs are the main barrier to cure. CD4+ T cells have been extensively studied as the primary HIV-1 reservoir. However, there is substantial evidence that HIV-1-infected myeloid cells (monocytes/macrophages) also contribute to viral persistence and pathogenesis.Recent studies in animal models and people with HIV-1 demonstrate that myeloid ...

Viral pollution of some artificial reservoirs in Romania.

Zentralblatt fur Bakteriologie, Mikrobiologie und Hygiene. 1. Abt. Originale B, Hygiene, 1984
Five reservoirs were investigated for the presence of enteroviruses by using simultaneously two methods for concentration (PE60 and yeast cells) and two techniques for isolation (inoculation into suckling mice and into cell cultures). The average rate of virus positive samples was lower in reservoir water than in the water of the adjoined rivers.

Prostratin as a New Therapeutic Agent Targeting HIV Viral Reservoirs

Drug News & Perspectives, 2005
The persistence of latent reservoirs of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) represents a major barrier to virus eradication in patients on combination antiretroviral therapy. It has been suggested that treating infected individuals simultaneously with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and agents that activate cells to express HIV-1 ...
