Cloaked similarity between HIV-1 and SARS-CoV suggests an anti-SARS strategy

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2003
Background Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a febrile respiratory illness. The disease has been etiologically linked to a novel coronavirus that has been named the SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV), whose genome was recently sequenced ...

Chemotherapy for Spinal Cord Intramedullary Pediatric Low‐Grade Glioma—A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric intramedullary low‐grade gliomas (PIMLGGs) are rare neoplasms that present unique clinical and management challenges. Although surgery remains the primary tool for tissue diagnosis and decompression, complete gross‐total resection is frequently unfeasible due to the infiltrative nature of these lesions.

Software Dedicated to Virus Sequence Analysis “Bioinformatics Goes Viral”

open access: yes, 2017
Computer-assisted technologies of the genomic structure, biological function, and evolution of viruses remain a largely neglected area of research. The attention of bioinformaticians to this challenging field is currently unsatisfying in respect to its medical and biological importance.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

GenoMiX: Accelerated Simultaneous Analysis of Human Genomics, Microbiome Metagenomics, and Viral Sequences

open access: yes2023 IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference (BioCAS), 2023
Personalized medicine tailors treatments based on the individual characteristics of each patient. Recent work targets comprehensive analysis of patient samples that contain human, viral, and bacterial genomes. Novel technologies like Simul-seq enable simultaneous analysis of such samples. However, existing workflows are slow and disjoint. In this paper,

Identification and characterization of multiple novel viruses in fecal samples of cormorants

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionCormorants, as protected wild animals by the State Forestry Administration of China, have a broad distribution across China. Previous studies have shown that they can be infected with multiple viruses in the Flaviviridae, Orthomyxoviridae ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Discontinuous sequence change of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 env sequences in plasma viral and lymphocyte-associated proviral populations in vivo:implications for models of HIV pathogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Sequence change in different hypervariable regions of the external membrane glycoprotein (gp120) of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) was studied.

Viral interferon antagonists and antiviral drugs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
For this project, we developed reporter cell lines that express viral proteins with the potential to be used in cell-based screening assays to select chemical candidates for antiviral drugs.

Metagenomic Analysis of Flaviviridae in Mosquito Viromes Isolated From Yunnan Province in China Reveals Genes From Dengue and Zika Viruses

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2018
More than 6,000 mosquitoes of six species from six sites were collected and tested for their virome using metagenomics sequencing and bioinformatic analysis. The identified viral sequences belonged to more than 50 viral families.
