Splenic Tropism and Spleen‐Modulated Systemic Inflammation in Acute Plasmodium vivax Malaria

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In chronic Plasmodium vivax (Pv) infection, the spleen accounts for over 98% of total‐body parasite biomass. Whether splenic tropism also occurs in acute infection and how the spleen influences pathogenesis have not been systematically explored. In Papua, Indonesia, we compared clinical and hematology data in 24 spleen‐intact and 25 previously

Cellular tropism and cell-to-cell fusion properties of the infectious bronchitis virus spike glycoprotein [PDF]

open access: yes
There are numerous vaccines available for the control of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) in poultry, however protection is short-lived and poorly cross-protective between strains.

Reframing the Gut–Brain Axis: The Gut Wall as a Neural Immune Interface in Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurological Diseases

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Gut wall physiology in multiple sclerosis (MS) and autoimmune neurologic diseases remains underexplored but may span gut barrier dysfunction, enteric glial targeting, mucosal immune dysregulation, and autoimmune targets within the enteric nervous system (ENS).

Respiratory syncytial virus receptor expression in the mouse and viral tropism.

open access: yesHistology and histopathology, 2015
Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infects airway epithelium and can cause serious illnesses such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia. With the discovery of cell-surface nucleolin as a fusion receptor for RSV, the question arose as to whether nucleolin could explain RSV tropism in vivo.

Characterizing HIV-1 Tropism and Key Positions within the V3 Loop Using Random Forest Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology
HIV-1 exhibits tropism for the CCR5 and/or CXCR4 receptors, which are essential for viral entry into CD4 cells. With the advent of coreceptor antagonists, understanding HIV-1 tropism has become crucial for patient management.

Duck Orbivirus and Egg Production: A Newly Identified Duck Orbivirus Is the Etiological Agent of Egg Production Decline in Chinese Breeder Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Field samples from breeder duck farms with egg‐production decline were subjected to viral detection, genome sequencing, and virus isolation. Experimental infection demonstrated that duck orbivirus (DORV) causes a significant and persistent reduction in egg production in breeder ducks.

The crucial but insufficient role of E2s domain’s residues 490 and 492 in determining the host tropism of hepatitis E virus

open access: yesNature Communications
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a significant pathogen causing acute viral hepatitis globally, posing a particular threat to pregnant women. HEV infects a range of host species, with distinct genotypes exhibiting genotype-specific tropism for different host ...

Recent Advances in Virus–Host Interactions, Antiviral Bioactive Compounds, and Breeding for Disease Resistance of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Basic research on the PEDV infection cycle and virus–host interactions advances the development of anti‐PEDV drugs and disease‐resistant breeding and helps strengthen disease prevention and control while reducing economic losses in the swine industry.

Establishment of Humanized EFNB2/B3 Murine Models for Investigating Nipah Virus Pathogenesis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic paramyxovirus classified as a WHO priority pathogen, which causes severe respiratory disease and encephalitis in humans with high mortality. Currently, no licensed vaccines or specific antiviral therapies are available.

Engineering Biology Beyond Single Genes: Advances and Challenges in Multiplex Genome Editing

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Multiplex genome editing is transforming genome engineering from single‐gene perturbation to network‐level control, yet its broader application remains limited by challenges in gRNA array engineering, delivery technologies, and safety management. Emerging AI‐driven approaches are accelerating guide RNA design and CRISPR effector optimization for ...
