New AI‐Assisted Approach for Expanding the Solution Space: Application to Lattice Structure Design

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces an innovative framework for designing structured materials by ex panding the design space through reparameterization of qualitative variables into continuous structural descriptors. Combined with machine‐learning‐based prediction and multi‐objective optimization, the approach enables the discovery of novel lattice architectures ...

Learning to Learn with Virtual Microscopes [PDF]

open access: yesInSITE Conference, 2011
Recent research (Jonas-Dwyer & Sudweeks, 2007) indicated that when virtual microscopes were introduced to third year health science students as part of their histology and pathology laboratory work, no detrimental effects were found. To investigate the use of virtual microscopes further, an extended study was undertaken with both second and third year

Virtual Libraries as Virtual Learning Spaces [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference on Networked Learning, 2008
This paper reports on outcomes from the LASSIE (Libraries and Social Software in Education) project, which was funded by the University of London Centre for Distance Education (CDE) for nine months from March to November 2007. The project aimed to explore how ‘social software’ or ‘Web 2.0’ might enhance the use of library services by distance learners ...

Embedded Ferroelectric Nanoclusters Can Drive Polarization Reversal in a Non‐Ferroelectric Polar Film via the Proximity Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nanoclusters create local internal fields in a normally non‐switchable polar film because of polarization mismatch at their interfaces. That field opposes polarization in the regions with larger polarization and reinforces polarization in the regions with smaller polarization.
