Development of Virus-Like-Particle Vaccine and Reporter Assay for Zika Virus

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2017
Recent worldwide outbreaks of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection and the lack of an approved vaccine raise serious concerns regarding preparedness to combat this emerging virus.

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Universal Particle Kinetic Distribution in Crowded Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We study many-particle transport in heterogeneous, crowded environments at different particle P\'{e}clet numbers ($Pe^*$). We demonstrate that a modified Nakagami-$m$ function describes particle velocity probability distributions when particle deposition occurs.

Virus-like Particle Display of the α-Gal Carbohydrate for Vaccination against Leishmania Infection

open access: yesACS Central Science, 2017
Secreted and surface-displayed carbohydrates are essential for virulence and viability of many parasites, including for immune system evasion. We have identified the α-Gal trisaccharide epitope on the surface of the protozoan parasites Leishmania ...

Expression and purification of E140 protein antigen fragments of Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium berghei for serological assays

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.

Polymer Structure and Conformation Alter the Antigenicity of Virus-like Particle-Polymer Conjugates.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2017
Covalent conjugation of water-soluble polymers to proteins is critical for evading immune surveillance in the field of biopharmaceuticals. The most common and long-standing polymer modification is the attachment of methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG ...

Virus-like particles in vaccine development

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2010
Virus-like particles (VLPs) are multiprotein structures that mimic the organization and conformation of authentic native viruses but lack the viral genome, potentially yielding safer and cheaper vaccine candidates. A handful of prophylactic VLP-based vaccines is currently commercialized worldwide: GlaxoSmithKline's Engerix (hepatitis B virus) and ...

Mapping Hsp104 interactions using cross‐linking mass spectrometry

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study examines how cross‐linking mass spectrometry can be utilized to analyze ATP‐induced conformational changes in Hsp104 and its interactions with substrates. We developed an analytical pipeline to distinguish between intra‐ and inter‐subunit contacts within the hexameric homo‐oligomer and discovered contacts between Hsp104 and a selected ...

Marburg virus-like particles by co-expression of glycoprotein and matrix protein in insect cells induces immune responses in mice

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2017
Background Marburg virus (MARV) causes severe haemorrhagic fever in humans and nonhuman primates and has a high mortality rate. However, effective drugs or licensed vaccines are not currently available to control the outbreak and spread of this disease ...

Virus-like Particles for TEM Regulation and Antitumor Therapy

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials, 2022
Tumor development and metastasis are intimately associated with the tumor microenvironment (TME), and it is difficult for vector-restricted drugs to act on the TME for long-term cancer immunotherapy.
