DNA virus uncoating

open access: yesVirology, 2015
Virus genomes are condensed and packaged inside stable proteinaceous capsids that serve to protect them during transit from one cell or host organism, to the next. During virus entry, capsid shells are primed and disassembled in a complex, tightly-regulated, multi-step process termed uncoating.

Transportin-3 Facilitates Uncoating of Influenza A Virus

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2022
Influenza A viruses (IAVs) are a major global health threat and in the future, may cause the next pandemic. Although studies have partly uncovered the molecular mechanism of IAV–host interaction, it requires further research. In this study, we explored the roles of transportin-3 (TNPO3) in IAV infection.

Interference in dengue virus adsorption and uncoating by carrageenans [PDF]

open access: yesVirology, 2007
This study demonstrated that the lambda- and iota-carrageenans, sulfated polysaccharides containing linear chains of galactopyranosyl residues, are potent inhibitors of dengue virus type 2 (DENV-2) and 3 (DENV-3) multiplication in Vero and HepG2 cells, with values of effective concentration 50% from 0.14 to 4.1 microg/ml.

Influenza Virus Uncoating in Infected Cells and Effect of Rimantadine

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1982
Uncoating of influenza virus (strain WSN) in MDCK cells was studied by following the fate of the virus labelled with radioactive precursors. The accumulation of subviral components of input virus was observed in nuclear-associated cytoplasm (NAC) obtained by treatment of the nuclei with citric acid.

Inhibition by interferon of the uncoating of vaccinia virus

Virology, 1968
Abstract The effect of interferon was determined on those steps in vaccinia virus infection that precede release of viral DNA into the cytoplasm. These include loss of the outer protein coat of the particle which exposes the “core” and release of the DNA from the core (uncoating).
