Clinical Performance of Toris K Contact Lens in Patients with Moderate to Advanced Keratoconus: A Real Life Retrospective Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2016
Objectives. To evaluate the visual performance of Toris K soft contact lenses in patients with moderate-to-advanced keratoconus and also to compare the results according to cone types, cone location, and severity of keratoconus.

Visual responses in mice lacking critical components of all known retinal phototransduction cascades.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
The mammalian visual system relies upon light detection by outer-retinal rod/cone photoreceptors and melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cells. Gnat1(-/-);Cnga3(-/-);Opn4(-/-) mice lack critical elements of each of these photoreceptive mechanisms via ...

Selectivity of human retinotopic visual cortex to S-cone-opponent, L/M-cone-opponent and achromatic stimulation

open access: yes, 2007
Our aim was to make a quantitative comparison of the response of the different visual cortical areas to selective stimulation of the two different cone-opponent pathways [long- and medium-wavelength (L/M)- and short-wavelength (S)-cone-opponent] and the ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Dynamics of color vision recovery in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease: a longitudinal study using cone contrast test and adaptive optics imaging

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection
Background Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease affects visual function, but the recovery process of color vision remains incompletely understood.

Commissural Axon Kinetics and the Role of Netrin in Early Brain Circuitry Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
As neurons begin to differentiate, they send out processes called axons to initiate the formation of functional nerve connections. A specialized structure at the end of an axon called the growth cone is believed to possess the impressive navigational and

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Decoding Cone Morphology in Keratoconus: A Retrospective Study on Contact Lens Selection in Turkish Patients

open access: yesJournal of Current Ophthalmology
Purpose: To explore the relationship between cone morphology and the selection of appropriate contact lens types for patients with keratoconus. Specifically, this study aimed to evaluate how keratometry values, cone morphology, and disease severity ...

Cone visual pigments of monotremes: Filling the phylogenetic gap [PDF]

open access: yesVisual Neuroscience, 2008
We have determined the sequence and genomic organization of the genes encoding the cone visual pigment of the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) and the echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), and inferred their spectral properties and evolutionary pathways.
