A horizontally acquired pantothenate gene drives vitellogenin's benefit to whitefly symbiosis persistence

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This diagram illustrates that the horizontally transferred panBC influences the level and localization of vitellogenin (Vg) by facilitating pantothenate production and juvenile hormone (JH) biosynthesis. In turn, Vg shields symbionts by suppressing autophagic degradation in bacteriocytes.

A horizontally transferred bacterial gene for pantothenic acid biosynthesis regulates diapause and reproduction in the spider mite Amphitetranychus viennensis

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
A bacterial‐derived AvPBL gene encoding a pantothenate‐β‐alanine ligase was identified in Amphitetranychus viennensis. RNAi silencing of AvPBL reduced pantothenic acid production, impairing reproduction and diapause induction, while pantothenic acid supplementation rescued these phenotypes.

Increased vitamin B5 uptake capacity of ultrasonic treated milled rice: A new method for rice fortification

open access: yes, 2018
White milled rice contains reduced nutritional value as a result of milling and polishing processes. This work explored a simple approach of fortifying rice through surface modification and vitamin adsorption.

Dietary Habits and Atopic Dermatitis Significantly Influence the Fecal Microbiome

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Atopic dermatitis, dietary habits, sex, and BMI significantly influenced the fecal microbiome composition. On the species level, Faecalibacterium taiwanense was more abundant in atopic dermatitis, and Vescimonas sp000435555 was more abundant in the control population. On the genus level, CAG‐302 (NCBI: Clostridium) was more abundant in controls.

Enhancing scar appearance: Results from a cosmetic clinical study on dexpanthenol‐containing silicone gel and massage ball in adults and children

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
This cosmetic clinical study demonstrates improvements in scar appearance associated with the use of a dexpanthenol‐containing silicone gel with an integrated massage ball in adults and children. Abstract Objective To evaluate changes in scar appearance and tolerability associated with 8 weeks of use of a test product comprising a topical dexpanthenol ...

Natural variation in the promoter of OsPDX1.2 enhances vitamin B6 accumulation and cold tolerance in rice

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Allelic variation in the promoter of the pyridoxal phosphate synthase OsPDX1.2 caused variation in the ACE‐box cis‐elements, resulting in differing OsPDX1.2 expression due to differences in binding affinity between the OsbZIP18 transcriptipn factor and the ACE‐box, contributing to variation in vitamin B6 levels and cold tolerance among rice varieties ...

Evolution‐Inspired Engineering of Diterpene Biosynthesis via Chloroplast Genome Modification

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Terpenes constitute the largest and most structurally diverse class of plant secondary metabolites, with critical roles in plant‐environment interactions and broad industrial applications. Although nuclear genome engineering of terpene pathways has been extensively explored, chloroplast genome engineering remains largely undeveloped, with most

Metabolic engineering of Yarrowia lipolytica targeting bottlenecks to boost D-Pantothenic acid biosynthesis

open access: yesBioresources and Bioprocessing
D-Pantothenic acid (DPA), also known as vitamin B5, is a water-soluble organic acid, widely applied in foods, feeds, cosmetics, and medicines. Although numerous and rapidly developing cell factories have been established for DPA biosynthesis, there has ...

Synthesis and salvage of vitamins B5 and B6 by toxoplasma gondii

open access: yes, 2022
Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite with the capacity to infect all nucleated cells. Different strategies have evolved to optimize growth and quiescence, between acute and chronic stages of infection. The work presented in this thesis addressed the metabolic needs and capabilities of the T.
