Vitamin D Signaling in Inflammation and Cancer: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Vitamin D and its active metabolites are important nutrients for human skeletal health. UV irradiation of skin converts 7-dehydrocholesterol into vitamin D3, which metabolized in the liver and kidneys into its active form, 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 ...

Renal vitamin D receptor expression and vitamin D renoprotection [PDF]

open access: yesKidney International, 2012
Therapy to enhance the renoprotective actions of vitamin D receptor (VDR) activation should safely overcome the distinct VDR content along the nephron to effectively control renal calcium reabsorption, control renal klotho levels for the phosphaturic actions of FGF23, and inhibit proteinuria and the activation of the renin-angiotensin system.

Immunohistochemical Expression of Vitamin D receptor in Breast Cancer in Erbil city

open access: yesAdvanced Medical Journal
Background & objectives: Vitamin D receptor is a nuclear receptor that modulates the activity of genes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency of vitamin D receptor expression in breast carcinoma by immunohistochemistry and to ...

The vitamin D receptor agonist EB1089 can exert its antiviral activity independently of the vitamin D receptor.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Vitamin D has been shown to have antiviral activity in a number of different systems. However, few studies have investigated whether the antiviral activity is exerted through the vitamin D receptor (VDR).

Safety of Daprodustat for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease Anemia: Final Analysis of a Multicenter Postmarketing Surveillance Study in Japan

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Vitamin D and Vitamin D Receptor Gene in Osteoarthritis

open access: yesSerbian Journal of Experimental and Clinical Research, 2022
Abstract Osteoarthritis is a degenerative, painful and irreversible disease that affects millions of people worldwide. The causes and mechanisms of osteoarthritis have not been fully understood. Vitamin D is an essential factor in bone metabolism. Its actions are mediated by the vitamin D receptor, a transcription factor that controls

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
