Anticoagulation therapy and the use of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants in the elderly

open access: yes, 2017
Anticoagulation indications do not differ between elderly and younger patients. However due to the changes with ageing some anticoagulants may increase the risk of bleeding. Therefore a dose adjustment might be needed for some anticoagulant drugs.

Nanoamphizymes: Self‐Assembled Amphiphilic Enzymatic Nanomaterials for High‐Performance Biocatalysis and Biosensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An amphiphilic GOx nanoamphizyme was constructed by covalently introducing hydrophobic PPNI linkers onto GOx, enabling spontaneous self‐assembly into tunable nanoparticles. Mild crosslinking further stabilized the assemblies and enhanced catalytic performance and stability.

Bone Organoids Across the Development‐to‐Remodeling Continuum: From Tissue Formation to Functional Competence and Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Mineralization alone does not establish a mature bone organoid. This Review integrates biological foundations, materials design, adaptive remodeling, and translational validation through the development‐to‐remodeling continuum (DRC). By separating biological functions from the evidence supporting them, the framework exposes critical gaps in current ...

NeuroSuite for Long‐Term Functional and Structural Studies of Air‐Liquid Interface Cerebral Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NeuroSuite provides a modular hardware‐software platform integrating Neuroweb and NeuroMaps to enable long‐term, in situ electrophysiological interrogation of air–liquid interface organoid slices while preserving tissue architecture. Its components can be used together or independently to capture real‐time activity, spatial network dynamics, and ...

Antithrombotic Treatment and Clinical Outcomes After Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Retrospective Cohort Study from the Swedish Stroke Register

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background A rapid shift has occurred from vitamin K antagonists toward direct oral anticoagulants, which have a lower risk of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, effects on clinical outcomes after ICH are understudied.

Current insights on cardiovascular and neurodegenerative relations of direct oral anticoagulants and their biotransformation [PDF]

open access: yesPharmacia
An intriguing connection explored over the years is the link between neurodegenerative diseases and thrombosis. A number of studies have focused on associations between cardiovascular events and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s,

The Natural Product Corramycin Acts as a DNA Gyrase Poison and Overcomes Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corramycin, a myxobacterial natural product antibiotic, exhibits potent bactericidal activity against multidrug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The compound hijacks bacterial transporters such as BacA and OppABCD to enter the cell and inhibits DNA synthesis through a previously unrecognized mode of DNA gyrase poisoning, locking the enzyme in an ...

Vitamin K antagonists: impact on hospitalizations and accesses to emergency room

open access: yes, 2017
The Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) are responsible of increasing hospital admissions, prolongation of hospital stay, and emergency room (ER) visits. The aim of our study was to estimate the impact of the anticoagulant therapy with vitamin K antagonists ...
