α-Tocopherol pro-vitamins: synthesis, hydrolysis and accumulation in rabbit ear skin

open access: yesJournal of Controlled Release, 2004
We synthesized esters of alpha-tocopherol (VE) with the aim to develop new pro-vitamins, easily reconverted by enzymes in the skin and able to release another active moiety such as an amino acid, in order to obtain a synergic effect. In particular, the attention was dedicated to the amino acids glycine and alanine and to pyroglutamic acid.

Transcriptome and metabolome profiling identify factors potentially involved in pro-vitamin A accumulation in cassava landraces

open access: yesPlant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2023
Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a predominant food security crop in several developing countries. Its storage roots, rich in carbohydrate, are deficient in essential micronutrients, including provitamin A carotenoids. Increasing carotenoid content in cassava storage roots is important to reduce the incidence of vitamin A deficiency, a public ...

THE ANTIMALARIA DRUG ARTEMISININ DISPLAYS STRONG CYTOTOXIC EFFECT ON LEUKAEMIA LYMPHOCYTES IN COMBINATION WITH VITAMIN C AND PRO-VITAMIN K3

open access: yesTHE ANTIMALARIA DRUG ARTEMISININ DISPLAYS STRONG CYTOTOXIC EFFECT ON LEUKAEMIA LYMPHOCYTES IN COMBINATION WITH VITAMIN C AND PRO-VITAMIN K3, 2021
This study investigated the anticancer effect of the anti-parasitic drug artemisinin in combination with two redox modulators: vitamin C and pro-vitamin K3 (C/K3) The experiments were conducted on leukaemia cells Jurkat. Cells were treated with either artemisinin or C/K3 alone and with all three compounds. Cell proliferation and viability were analysed
