Design of a Vitronectin-Based Recombinant Protein as a Defined Substrate for Differentiation of Human Pluripotent Stem Cells into Hepatocyte-Like Cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Maintenance and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) usually requires culture on a substrate for cell adhesion. A commonly used substratum is Matrigel purified from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm sarcoma cells, and consists of a complex mixture

Characterization of Vitronectins in Atherosclerotic Lesions

open access: yesJournal of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, 1996
Vitronectin is one of the major extracellular matrix proteins that accumulates in atherosclerotic lesions. A monoclonal antibody (EMR1a/212D) specifically stained the extracellular regions in thickened intima which colocalized well with lipid deposition.

Intravital Multimodal Imaging of Human Cortical Organoid Transplantation in a Mouse Model of Chronic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal intravital imaging platform enables longitudinal tracking of human cortical organoids transplanted into chronic stroke lesions. By combining surgical microscopy, MRI, bioluminescence imaging, and two‐photon fluorescence microscopy, the platform captures graft placement, viability dynamics, and cellular‐scale morphology in vivo, offering a ...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa Uses Dihydrolipoamide Dehydrogenase (Lpd) to Bind to the Human Terminal Pathway Regulators Vitronectin and Clusterin to Inhibit Terminal Pathway Complement Attack. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa controls host innate immune and complement attack. Here we identify Dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase (Lpd), a 57 kDa moonlighting protein, as the first P.

S100A8/A9‐High Macrophages Activate Intestinal Fibroblasts via mCCL6/hCCL15‐CCR1 Axis to Drive Intestinal Fibrosis in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
S100A8/A9‐high macrophages are markedly enriched in the stenotic intestinal tissue of patients with Crohn's disease. These profibrotic macrophages secrete mCCL6 in a STAT3‐dependent manner. mCCL6 and its human ortholog hCCL15 activate fibroblasts via the CCR1 receptor, thereby driving excessive collagen deposition.

Functional Specialization of Respiratory and Olfactory Mucus Revealed by Proteomic Profiling

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Mucus overlies the nasal mucosa in the respiratory and olfactory regions, which perform distinct physiological functions. However, proteomic differences between respiratory mucosa (RM) and olfactory cleft (OC) mucus remain unclear.

Single amino acid substitutions in the chemotactic sequence of urokinase receptor modulate cell migration and invasion. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The receptor for urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPAR) plays an important role in controlling cell migration. uPAR binds urokinase and vitronectin extracellular ligands, and signals in complex with transmembrane receptors such as Formyl-peptide ...

Cross‐Species Single‐Cell Comparative Analysis Reveals Gluconeogenic Features of Hepatocytes in Ruminants

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
In this study, we used cross‐species comparisons to identify ruminant hepatocyte features. We also identified potential genes and TFs involved in coordinating gluconeogenesis in ruminant hepatocytes. By integrating single‐cell data with population genetic analyses, we further identified candidate genetic variation in glucose metabolism and ...

Bone is not essential for osteoclast activation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
The mechanism whereby bone activates resorptive behavior in osteoclasts, the cells that resorb bone, is unknown. It is known that α(v)β(3) ligands are important, because blockade of α(v)β(3) receptor signaling inhibits bone resorption, but this might be ...

Halogenated Tryptophans Improve Integrin αVβ6 Affinity of Cyclic RGD Peptides and Provide Handles for Late‐Stage Derivatization

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Lighting up αVβ6: Halotryptophan engineering converts an RGD scaffold into a modular αVβ6 ligand platform, enabling picomolar affinity and late‐stage functionalization. The resulting probes combine high selectivity with fluorescence for FACS and tumor imaging.
