Strategies for studying permeation at voltage-gated ion channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Voltage-dependent ion channels are presently thought to consist of several distinct functional regions: (a) activation gates, (b) inactivation gates, and permeation pathways.

Small-molecule CaVα1⋅CaVβ antagonist suppresses neuronal voltage-gated calcium-channel trafficking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Extracellular calcium flow through neuronal voltage-gated CaV2.2 calcium channels converts action potential-encoded information to the release of pronociceptive neurotransmitters in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, culminating in excitation of the ...

Active dendrites regulate the spatiotemporal spread of signaling microdomains. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2018
Microdomains that emerge from spatially constricted spread of biochemical signaling components play a central role in several neuronal computations.

Ion channel molecular complexes in vascular smooth muscle

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Ion channels that influence membrane potential and intracellular calcium concentration control vascular smooth muscle excitability. Voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCC), transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, voltage (KV), and Ca2+-activated K ...

Leptin-Induced Endothelium-Independent Vasoconstriction in Thoracic Aorta and Pulmonary Artery of Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats: Role of Calcium Channels and Stores. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Decreased leptin-induced endothelium-dependent vasodilation has been reported in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Here, we report leptin-induced vasoconstriction in endothelium-denuded pulmonary artery and thoracic aorta from SHR and sought to ...

The mechanism by which potassium causes neurite retraction in lamprey descending neurons in cell culture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
only availableSevere spinal cord injury (SCI) disrupts descending axons from reticulospinal (RS) neurons that project to the spinal cord. In most “higher” vertebrates, including humans, recovery is very minimal due to limited regeneration in the central ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Calcium in the initiation, progression and as an effector of Alzheimer's disease pathology. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The cause(s) of sporadic Alzheimer's disease (sAD) are complex and currently poorly understood. They likely result from a combination of genetic, environmental, proteomic and lipidomic factors that crucially occur only in the aged brain.

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Cloning and in silico investigation of a putative voltage-gated calcium channel gene and protein in Astacus leptodactylus

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi, 2023
Voltage-gated calcium channels are essential elements in development of many cellular processes like electrical signaling, contraction secretion and gene expression.
