Molecular Surface of JZTX-V (β-Theraphotoxin-Cj2a) Interacting with Voltage-Gated Sodium Channel Subtype NaV1.4

open access: yesToxins, 2014
Voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs; NaV1.1–NaV1.9) have been proven to be critical in controlling the function of excitable cells, and human genetic evidence shows that aberrant function of these channels causes channelopathies, including epilepsy ...

Neurological perspectives on voltage-gated sodium channels [PDF]

open access: yesBrain, 2012
The activity of voltage-gated sodium channels has long been linked to disorders of neuronal excitability such as epilepsy and chronic pain. Recent genetic studies have now expanded the role of sodium channels in health and disease, to include autism, migraine, multiple sclerosis, cancer as well as muscle and immune system disorders.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Inhibition of voltage-gated sodium channels by sumatriptan bioisosteres

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2015
Voltage-gated sodium channels are known to play a pivotal role in perception and transmission of pain sensations. Gain-of-function mutations in the genes encoding the peripheral neuronal sodium channels, hNav1.7-1.9, cause human painful diseases.

Voltage-gated sodium channels and metastatic disease [PDF]

open access: yesChannels, 2012
Voltage-gated Na (+) channels (VGSCs) are macromolecular protein complexes containing a pore-forming α subunit and smaller non-pore-forming β subunits. VGSCs are expressed in metastatic cells from a number of cancers. In these cells, Na (+) current carried by α subunits enhances migration, invasion and metastasis in vivo.

Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Electrophysiological modulation of pain‑related sodium channels by cannabinoids: a systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Cannabis Research
Background Voltage-gated sodium channels regulate dorsal root ganglion excitability and are critical for nociceptive transmission. Cannabidiol (CBD) and related phytocannabinoids have been proposed to modulate these channels, offering potential non ...

Differential lipid dependence of the function of bacterial sodium channels.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The lipid bilayer is important for maintaining the integrity of cellular compartments and plays a vital role in providing the hydrophobic and charged interactions necessary for membrane protein structure, conformational flexibility and function.

Resolving Heterogeneity of Targeted Lipid Nanoparticles Through Solution‐Based Biophysical Analyses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AF4‐UV‐DLS‐MALS‐SAXS resolves previously inaccessible targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) subpopulations that differ in size, shape, and composition. Correlation of subpopulation‐resolved biophysical properties with in vivo RNA delivery reveals that targeted placental transfection is associated with distinct tLNP subpopulations rather than ensemble ...
