Analysis of DNA-Binding Activity of the JC Virus Minor Capsid Protein VP2

To investigate the DNA binding activity of the JC virus minor capsid protein, VP2, both wild-type and mutant VP2 were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. Southwestern blotting was employed for the DNA-binding assay. The results showed that VP2 was able to bind to DNA, except when either the last 13 or the last 29 amino acids were truncated.

A mutation increasing the size of the polyoma virion proteins, VP2 and VP3

Abstract The ts 48 mutant of polyoma virus carries a temperature-sensitive mutation ( ts A) which affects the polyoma large T antigen, blocking viral DNA synthesis at the nonpermissive temperature. In addition, there are at least two other changes in the ts 48 genome which affect virus-coded proteins.

In order to determine the relationship between the most recently isolated bluetongue virus serotype (BTV-2), and other US serotypes, the complete nucleotide sequence was determined from cDNA clones representing the L2 dsRNA of BTV-2, the gene that codes for the outer capsid neutralization antigen (VP2).
