Biología molecular de las proteínas accesorias del Virus de la Inmunodeficiencia Humana tipo 1 (VIH-1)

open access: yesSalud Uninorte, 2005
El Virus de la Inmunodeficiencia Humana tipo 1 (VIH-1) es un retrovirus complejo que codifica 15 distintas proteínas. Algunas de estas proteínas no son esenciales para la replicación viral.

Contribution of the Cytoplasmic Determinants of Vpu to the Expansion of Virus-Containing Compartments in HIV-1-Infected Macrophages

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2019
HIV-1 infection of macrophages leads to the sequestration of newly formed viruses in virus-containing compartments (VCCs), where virions remain infectious and hidden from immune surveillance.

Bacteria-Based Analysis of HIV-1 Vpu Channel Activity

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
HIV-1 Vpu is a small, single-span membrane protein with two attributed functions that increase the virus' pathogenicity: degradation of CD4 and inactivation of BST-2. Vpu has also been shown to possess ion channel activity, yet no correlation has been found between this attribute and Vpu's role in viral release.

Knowledgeable bankers ? the demand for research in World Bank operations [PDF]

open access: yes
Development impact calls for knowledgeable development practitioners. How then do the operational staff of the largest development agency value and use its research? Is there an incentive to learn and does it translate into useful knowledge? A new survey

Bacterial expression, correct membrane targeting and functional folding of the HIV-1 membrane protein Vpu using a periplasmic signal peptide.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Viral protein U (Vpu) is a type-III integral membrane protein encoded by Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 (HIV- 1). It is expressed in infected host cells and plays several roles in viral progeny escape from infected cells, including down-regulation of CD4

Evidence that Vpu modulates HIV-1 Gag-envelope interaction towards envelope incorporation and infectivity in a cell type dependent manner.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The HIV-1 Vpu is required for efficient virus particle release from the plasma membrane and intracellular CD4 degradation in infected cells. In the present study, we found that the loss of virus infectivity as a result of envelope (Env) incorporation ...

The macroeconomics of child labor regulation [PDF]

open access: yes
We develop a positive theory of the adoption of child labor laws. Workers who compete with children in the labor market support the introduction of a child labor ban, unless their own working children provide a large fraction of family income.
