Water Distribution Network System

open access: yes, 2023
The objective of this research is to ideal operation of water distribution networks can be posed as a scheduling problem where the objective is to meet the time-varying demand while meeting constraints on supply, pressure, etc. The first use of deep learning for the simulation, optimization, and operation control of water distribution networks is ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Optimal design of water distribution systems including water quality and system uncertainty

open access: yes, 2006
©2007 ASCEGenetic Algorithm (GA) optimization is a proven technique for determining the best design for Water Distribution Systems (WDSs). Recent advances in WDS analysis have included water quality issues and uncertainty in system parameters.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Optimal design of water distribution systems based on entropy and topology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A new multi-objective evolutionary optimization approach for joint topology and pipe size design of water distribution systems is presented. The algorithm proposed considers simultaneously the adequacy of flow and pressure at the demand nodes; the ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Selecting a discount rate for evaluating water distribution projects - the sustainability controversy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Water distribution systems produce greenhouse gases during the manufacture, transport and installation of pipes and also particularly as a result of pumping when electricity is derived from the burning of fossil fuels.

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Rehabilitation, repairing and leakage detection optimization in water distribution systems

open access: yes, 2006
Pipe ageing leads to an increment both in breakage frequency and leakages, and to a decrement in the system efficiency. Strategies are then necessary to define when and where to operate in order to improve the water distribution system reliability and to
