Evaluation of surface water drainage systems for cropping in the Central Highlands of Ethiopia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Published ArticleIn Ethiopia vertisols cover about 10% of the total land area and is the fourth most important soil used for crop production, accounting for nearly 23% of the total arable land used for crop production. More than half of the vertisols are

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Effect of water regime on poplar cultivation [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Šumarskog Fakulteta: Univerzitet u Beogradu, 2006
The effect of water regime on the growth and development of plantations of hydrologically conditioned species, poplars was researched in the alluvial plain of the river Tamiš. The investigations were carried out during the period 2000-2003 on the area of

Pollutant movement to shallow ground water tables from swine waste lagoons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Th is research investigated the effect of three anaerobic swine-waste lagoons on the quality of nearby ground water. The lagoons, in the Coastal Plain region of Virginia, were located on soils with high water tables and with varying drainage ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Stage–discharge relationship for a pipe overflow structure in both free and submerged flow

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2016
Many facilities for urban drainage systems are equipped with a pipe overflow structure that can often be treated as a circular broad-crested weir. Thus it is possible to evaluate the overflow discharge through this device by measuring the water levels in

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
