Chitosan mitigates water stress in cowpea plants through modulation of growth, homeostasis, and antioxidant activities

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionClimate change and population growth increase food demand, especially in semi-arid regions. Water deficit affects cowpea productivity, but foliar application of chitosan can improve its tolerance, stimulating antioxidant activity and growth ...

Restricted Water for Wet Dropping Prevention

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1957
ABSTRACT During an investigation of various feed ingredients and drugs to prevent wet droppings from hens caged individually it was observed that the hens spent more time drinking water than might be expected if the hens were on the floor. If this observation was true then the hens could be drinking more water than their metabolism required ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Assessing growth and antioxidant properties of greenhouse-grown lettuces (Lactuca sativa L.) under different irrigation and carbon fertilization management

open access: yesRevista de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias, 2020
Previous studies demonstrated that moderate water supply restrictions and enhanced CO2 concentration can maintain or improve yield and accumulation of secondary compounds in lettuce under greenhouse conditions.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
