Clinically Relevant Outcome Measures in Women With Adrenoleukodystrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adrenoleukodystrophy is a rare inherited peroxisomal disease caused by pathogenic variants in the ABCD1 gene located on the X chromosome. Although the most severe central nervous system and adrenal complications typically affect only men with adrenoleukodystrophy, the majority of women develop myeloneuropathy symptoms in adulthood.

Effect of work-rate on synergy of corrosion and wear of nickel-based 690 alloys under fretting conditions

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The heat exchange tubes in the secondary steam generator of pressurized water reactor vibrate due to the impact of fluid, which results in collision leading to fretting wear. The work-rate can characterize random vibrations over time.

Prediction of Wear in Crosslinked Polyethylene Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty

open access: yesLubricants, 2015
Wear-related complications remain a major issue after unicompartmental arthroplasty. We used a computational model to predict knee wear generated in vitro under diverse conditions.

A Study of the Wear Behavior of a Rail Material [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Railway Research, 2021
The rail track is one of the most important elements of a railway system. During the passage of trains, the rails are subjected to contact load that comes from the wheels of the train.

Wheel material wear mechanisms and transitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In order to develop more durable wheel materials to cope with the new specifications being imposed on wheel wear, a greater understanding is needed of the wear mechanisms and transitions occurring in wheel steels, particularly at higher load and slip ...

Micro/Nanostructure and tribological characteristics of pressureless sintered carbon nanotubes reinforced aluminium matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This study reports the manufacture, microstructure, and tribological behaviour of carbon nanotube reinforced aluminium composites against pure aluminium. The specimens were fabricated using powder metallurgy method. The nanotubes in weight percentages of

Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Dry Sliding Wear Behavior of Super Duplex Stainless Steel AISI 2507: a Statistical Approach

open access: yesArchives of Foundry Engineering, 2016
The dry sliding wear behavior of heat-treated super duplex stainless steel AISI 2507 was examined by taking pin-on-disc type of wear-test rig. Independent parameters, namely applied load, sliding distance, and sliding speed, influence mainly the wear ...

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

A comparative analysis of the wear characteristics of glazes generated on the ordinary Portland cement surface of concrete by means of CO2 and high power diode laser radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The wear characteristics of a glaze generated on the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) surface of concrete using a 2 kW high power diode laser (HPDL) and a 3 kW CO2 laser have been determined.
