Midlife hypertension and late‐life cognition: weighting the LifeAfter90 study

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Midlife hypertension is a well‐established predictor of late‐life cognitive decline; however, few population‐representative estimates of this association exist among oldest‐old cohorts. METHODS LifeAfter90 (LA90) is an ethnoracially diverse cohort of individuals aged 90+ linked to midlife multiphasic health check‐ups (MHC).

Cerebral small vessel disease and cognition in older adults across the neurodegenerative spectrum: insights from the COMPASS‐ND study

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Imaging‐based cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) summary scores quantify CSVD burden. This study characterized CSVD scores and assessed their cognitive associations in older adults with various neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive profiles.

Prevalence and Risk Factors for Cerebral Microbleeds in Chinese Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.

Falls and Fear of Falling in Minor Stroke Patients With Vestibular Symptoms: A Longitudinal Observational Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
This prospective study reveals that persistent vestibular symptoms, cerebral small vessel disease, and anxiety/depression predict long‐term fall risk in minor stroke patients. Early identification and intervention within the first 3 months poststroke may help mitigate balance impairment and improve outcomes.

Mitigating disparities in diagnosis of dementia

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia: Behavior &Socioeconomics of Aging, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract The field of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) is undergoing a transformative shift with a better understanding of disease biology, biomarker‐based diagnostics, and disease‐modifying therapies. Yet, these advancements risk exacerbating existing disparities in diagnosis and care.

Overcoming Cognitive Bias: A Case of Disseminated Neurocysticercosis in a Muslim Woman With Remote Pork Consumption

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Religious prohibitions against pork do not exclude individuals residing in endemic regions from contracting neurocysticercosis. Obtaining a detailed lifetime exposure history, including prior religious and dietary practices, is essential to overcome cognitive bias and prevent diagnostic delays.

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis Presenting as Fever of Unknown Origin in a 4‐Year‐Old Boy: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT A 4‐year‐old boy presented with prolonged fever of unknown origin and systemic inflammation without early neurological signs. MRI revealed multifocal demyelination, and MOG antibodies were positive. He was diagnosed with ADEM and treated with steroids and IVIg, but relapsed twice, consistent with multiphasic disseminated encephalomyelitis ...
