Five New Sirius-like White Dwarf–Main-sequence Star Systems with MagAO-X

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Most known white dwarfs in multiple systems with main-sequence stars have been discovered with M-type companions, because the white dwarf causes detectable UV excess and bluer colors than expected from a single M star.

Probing the Propeller Regime With Wide Neutron Star Binaries

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten
ABSTRACTWe model the duration of the propeller stage in wide binary systems with neutron stars and calculate the time of accretion onset for various propeller models. We apply our modeling to the symbiotic X‐ray binary SWIFT J0850.8‐4219. Unless a propeller with a very slow spin‐down is operating, it is very improbable to find a system similar to SWIFT

Discovery of a widely separated binary system of very low mass stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2005
We report our discovery of a nearby wide binary system, LP 714-37 AB. Phan-Bao et al. identified LP 714-37 as a mid-M dwarf during a cross-identification of the NLTT and DENIS catalogues. Our CCD images resolve the system into a binary with a projected angular separation of 1.8 arcsec, or 33 AU, and low-resolution optical spectra give spectral types of

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Fundamental Tests of White Dwarf Cooling Physics with Wide Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present follow-up spectroscopy and a detailed model atmosphere analysis of 29 wide double white dwarfs, including eight systems with a crystallized C/O core member.

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

The Pleiades Binary Fraction Revisited

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
One of the nearest and best-studied open clusters, the Pleiades is an important cornerstone of stellar astrophysics. Despite its role as a reference coeval stellar population, its multiplicity properties are still not well characterized. The combined use

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.
