Mining wild barley for powdery mildew resistance [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Pathology, 2015
Powdery mildew, caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei (Bgh), is a worldwide disease problem on barley ( Hordeum vulgare ) with potentially severe impact on yield.

Bifidobacterium Pseudolongum‐Derived Inosine Mitigates Polystyrene Nanoplastics‐Induced Hepatic Injury by Inhibiting the Polarization of M1 Macrophages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Probiotic B.p colonization elevated gut‐derived inosine level in the liver, while elevated inosine activated A2AR and subsequently blocked NPs‐induced polarization of M1 macrophages by repressing the miR155/SOCS1/NF‐κB pathway. This reduced the release of inflammatory cytokines and thereby, mitigated NPs‐induced hepatic injury.

Inhalation of wild barley into the airways. Two different outcomes

open access: yesSaudi Medical Journal, 2000
OBJECTIVE: There are only two previous reports of wild barley inhalation into the tracheobronchial tree in the literature. Our aim is to describe the effects, outcome and management of wild barely inhalation into the airways. METHODS: In a retrospective study, 18 patients with inhalation of spike of wild barley into the tracheobronchial tree were ...

Introgressed Variation in TaMYB7‐A1 Drives Graded Dormancy and Climate‐Adaptive Pre‐Harvest Sprouting Resistance in Wheat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TaMYB7‐A1 directly activates TaABI5 to enhance ABA signaling and regulate ABA‐GA homeostasis, enforcing seed dormancy. Its superior allele, derived from wild einkorn introgression, harbors a MITE insertion that elevates expression and two amino acid substitutions that enhance transcriptional activity, collectively generating graded PHS resistance for ...

Diversity of a cytokinin dehydrogenase gene in wild and cultivated barley

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2019
The cytokinin dehydrogenase gene HvCKX2.1 is the regulatory target for the most abundant heterochromatic small RNAs in drought-stressed barley caryopses. We investigated the diversity of HvCKX2.1 in 228 barley landraces and 216 wild accessions and identified 14 haplotypes, five of these with ten or more members, coding for four different protein ...

The effect of awns on seed yield and germination characteristics in Elymus nutans Griseb.

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
The effect of awns on seed yield. Three‐year field trials demonstrated that awns significantly regulate seed yield components and germination characteristics of Elymus nutans Griseb, laying a theoretical foundation for the breeding of high‐yielding forage varieties and seed production.

Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Bmy1 Intron III Alleles Conferring the Genotypic Variations in β-Amylase Activity under Drought Stress between Tibetan Wild and Cultivated Barley

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
β-amylase activity is related to the polymorphisms of Bmy1 intron III; however, no attention has been given to such relationships under environmental stresses such as drought.

Environmental Pesticide Exposure in the Etiology of Pediatric Brain Tumors and Leukemia: A Scoping Review of Epidemiological Studies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric cancer is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in children. The etiologies of pediatric cancer are largely unknown, but environmental pesticide exposures are likely to contribute. Chronic low‐dose exposure to pesticide mixtures through drinking water is a growing concern in agricultural communities.
