Non-invasive plasma glycomic and metabolic biomarkers of post-treatment control of HIV

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Current HIV cure-focused clinical trials rely on analytic treatment interruption (ATI) to evaluate post-treatment control (PTC). Here, combining untargetted metabolomics and glycomics in two HIV clinical cohorts, in vitro assays, and machine learning ...

Decitabine disrupts EBV genomic epiallele DNA methylation patterns around CTCF binding sites to increase chromatin accessibility and lytic transcription in gastric cancer

open access: yesmBio, 2023
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is associated with 10% of human gastric carcinomas, which are distinguished by a CpG island methylator phenotype. In gastric carcinoma tumors and cell lines, the EBV genome also exhibits a high degree of 5-methyl cytosine (5mC ...

Effect of an extract of Centella asiatica on the biodistribution of sodium pertechnetate (Na99mTcO4) and on the fixation of radioactivity on blood constituents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This study evaluates the effects of an acute treatment with a Centella asiatica (CA) extract on the biodistribution of the radiopharmaceutical Na99mTcO4 and on the fixation of technetium-99m on blood constituents. Wistar rats were treated with CA extract

Co‐overexpression of the caloric restriction‐induced mitochondrial factors PGC‐1α and MIPEP upregulates Phospho1 expression in adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.

SWI/SNF catalytic subunits’ switch drives resistance to EZH2 inhibitors in ARID1A-mutated cells

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The mechanism of resistance to EZH2 inhibitors in cancers with inactivating SWI/SNF mutations is unknown. Here, the authors demonstrate that the switch of the SWI/SNF catalytic subunits from SMARCA4 to SMARCA2 drives resistance to EZH2 inhibitors in ...

Blockade of alpha 2-adrenergic receptors in prelimbic cortex: impact on cocaine self-administration in adult spontaneously hypertensive rats following adolescent atomoxetine treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
RATIONALE: Research with the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) model of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder demonstrated that chronic methylphenidate treatment during adolescence increased cocaine self-administration established during adulthood ...

Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Histone variant H2A.Z cooperates with EBNA1 to maintain Epstein-Barr virus latent epigenome

open access: yesmBio
Chromatin structure plays a central role in the regulation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) latency. The histone variant H2A.Z.1 has been implicated in chromatin structures associated with the initiation of transcription and DNA replication.

TERRA G-quadruplex RNA interaction with TRF2 GAR domain is required for telomere integrity

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Telomere dysfunction causes chromosomal instability which is associated with many cancers and age-related diseases. The non-coding telomeric repeat-containing RNA (TERRA) forms a structural and regulatory component of the telomere that is implicated in ...

Protective effect of curcumin on lead acetate-induced testicular toxicity in Wistar rats

open access: yesResearch in Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2017
In recent years, the use of the antioxidant in reducing heavy metal toxicities has increased worldwide. Curcumin has been reported to have a strong antioxidant activity.
