Machine Learning Guided Design of Nerve‐On‐A‐Chip Platforms with Promoted Neurite Outgrowth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Compared to labor‐intensive trial‐and‐error experimentation, a machine learning (ML)‐guided workflow, incorporating cell viability assays, data augmentation, ensemble modeling, and model interpretation, is developed to accelerate nerve‐on‐a‐chip optimization and uncover data‐driven design principles.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Three-Dimensional Chromatin Structure of the EBV Genome: A Crucial Factor in Viral Infection

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Epstein–Barr Virus (EBV) is a human gamma-herpesvirus that is widespread worldwide. To this day, about 200,000 cancer cases per year are attributed to EBV infection. EBV is capable of infecting both B cells and epithelial cells.

Protective effect of leukotriene receptor antagonist montelukast on smoking-induced lung injury in Wistar rats. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Increased activation of alveolar macrophage, neutrophil and mast cell has been proven in cigarette smoking (CS)-related lung disorders (CSLD). An increased production of cysteinyl-leukotrienes (LTs), which are mediators secreted from the mentioned cells,

Reservoir‐Type Subcutaneous Implantable Devices Containing Porous Rate Controlling Membranes for Sustained Delivery of Risperidone

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel implantable drug delivery systemwith a biodegradable poly(caprolactone) membrane and compressed drug core forsustained release. These implantable devices deliver risperidone in vitro for 170 days and in vivo for 49 days in rats, showing promise for chronic conditions like schizophrenia.

IL-33 delays metastatic peritoneal cancer progression inducing an allergic microenvironment

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2019
Ovarian cancer is frequently diagnosed as peritoneal carcinomatosis. Unlike other tumor locations, the peritoneal cavity is commonly exposed to gut-breaching and ascending genital microorganisms and has a unique immune environment.

Gastroparesis and lipid metabolism-associated dysbiosis in Wistar-Kyoto rats

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology - Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2017
This study reveals that the stress-prone Wistar-Kyoto rat strain has a baseline physiology of gastroparesis and rapid small intestine transit, together with metabolic changes consistent with lipid metabolism-associated dysbiosis, compared with nonstress ...

Persistent papillary membrane in Wistar laboratory rats ( Rattus Norvegicus, Albinus Variation, Wistar ) [PDF]

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2017
ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to evaluate the presence of persistent pupillary membrane (PPM) in rats. Thirty rats between three and four months of age and weighing 300-500 grams, provided by the biothery section of the General Administration at Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Botucatu, SP, Brazil, were subjected to ophthalmological ...
