Descriptive sensory and instrumental texture profile analysis of woody breast in marinated chicken

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2018
The broiler industry is currently experiencing a muscle anomaly referred to as "woody breast," and the effect of different cooking methods on the marination properties of severe woody breast (SWB) has not yet been reported. This study compared the texture attributes of marinated (injected) normal (NOR) and SWB using a convection oven and a flat-top ...

Meat quality traits and proteome profile of woody broiler breast (pectoralis major) meat

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2018
Woody breast meat has recently become prevalent in the broiler industry in both the United States and European Union. Recent publications have described the meat quality characteristics of woody breast meat as having hardened areas and pale ridge-like bulges at both the caudal and cranial regions of the breast.

H2S‐Releasing Aspirin Nanoparticles Alleviate Endometriosis and Associated Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Albumin nanoparticles loaded with an H2S‐releasing aspirin derivative (ACS14) hitchhiking neutrophils after intraperitoneal injection and preferentially accumulate in endometriosis lesions in mice. The treatment suppresses lesion growth by regulating PI3K/Akt and reduces inflammation by inhibiting NF‐κB.

White striping and woody breast myopathies in the modern poultry industry: a review

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2016
Myopathies are gaining the attention of poultry meat producers globally. White Striping (WS) is a condition characterized by the occurrence of white striations parallel to muscle fibers on breast, thigh, and tender muscles of broilers, while Woody Breast (WB) imparts tougher consistency to raw breast fillets.

Combining Electrochemical Reduction with Biosynthesis for Directed Conversion of CO2 into a Library of C3 Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the H‐type electrolytic cell, carbon dioxide is reduced to acetic acid via electro‐microbial catalysis. The simply processed acetic acid is further converted through biological fermentation into high‐value‐added products, including acrylic acid, L‐lactic acid, and β‐alanine.

Effect Differences of Omega‐3 Fatty Acids From Plant Oil and Fish Oil on Human Health

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Omega‐3 fatty acids in plant oil is no less than fish oil on human health. ALA in plant oil takes directly healthy effects without conversion to DHA and EPA. Plant oil can be substitutes for fish oil to support partial ω‐3 fatty acids. For people who cannot afford fish oil, plant oil is also good for public health.

The Distribution of Lianas and Their Change in Abundance in Temperate Forests Over the Past 45 Years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Lianas (woody vines) are an important and dynamic component of many forests throughout the world, and increases in CO2, mean winter temperature, and forest fragmentation may promote their growth and proliferation in temperate forests.
