Xanthine Dehydrogenase Electrocatalysis: Autocatalysis and Novel Activity
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2011The enzyme xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) from the purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid as part of purine metabolism. The native electron acceptor is NAD(+) but herein we show that uric acid in its 2-electron oxidized form is able to act as an artificial ...

Inhibitory action of quercetin on xanthine oxidase and xanthine dehydrogenase activity
Pharmacological Research Communications, 1985Quercetin is an equally good inhibitor of xanthine oxidase (type O, oxygen-reducing enzyme) and xanthine dehydrogenase (type D, NAD+-reducing enzyme) activity of a preparation of the xanthine-oxidizing enzyme partially purified from rat liver. The inhibition seems competitive with the oxidase form and non-competitive (mixed-type) with the dehydrogenase

Purification of xanthine dehydrogenase from Drosophila melanogaster
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Specialized Section on Enzymological Subjects, 19641. 1. An enzymic assay of xanthine dehydrogenase (xanthine: NAD oxidoreductase) from Drosophila melanogaster is reported which is linear with respect to enzyme concentration and is sensitive enough to measure activity in single flies. The assay is based on the change in absorbance at 340 mμ as nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide is reduced or at 395 mμ

Paper Electrophoresis of Xanthine Dehydrogenase from Drosophilla
Nature, 1963XANTHINE dehydrogenase from Drosophila melanogaster is of particular interest since mutants at two separate loci lack this enzyme1 while a mutant at a third locus produces about 25 per cent of normal activity2. In an effort to detect strains of flies with genetically altered forms of xanthine dehydrogenase we devised a technique involving paper-strip ...

Xanthine dehydrogenase accumulation in developing Drosophila eyes
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1975Abstract Xanthine dehydrogenase activity is assayed by following the oxidation of pterin to isoxanthopterin by spectrofluorometry at the reaction's wavelength peaks: excitation, 344 nm; emission, 412 nm. The method is sensitive to less than 0·1 μU of activity (0·1 pmol/min) and allows the assay of Drosophila imaginal disk homogenates.

Soybean nodule xanthine dehydrogenase: A kinetic study
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1983Xanthine dehydrogenase was purified from soybean nodules and the kinetic properties were studied at pH 7.5. Km values of 5.0 +/- 0.6 and 12.5 +/- 2.5 microM were obtained for xanthine and NAD+, respectively. The pattern of substrate dependence suggested a Ping-Pong mechanism.

Xanthine Dehydrogenase and Related Enzymes
1975Xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH), aldehyde oxidase and pyridoxal oxidase are discussed together in this chapter because they share certain features of genetic control, and they seem to be related in a number of ways. These three enzymes and at least six genetic loci, some with multiple alleles, are involved in one of the most complex and interesting gene ...

A Novel Xanthine Dehydrogenase Inhibitor (BOF-4272)
1991An inhibitor of xanthine oxidase (XO)/xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH), an enzyme catalyzing the last step of purine catabolism, might be expected to be effective as remedy for hyperuricemia and possibly for ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, no clinically effective XO/XDH inhibitor except allopurinol have been used since it was introduced for clinical ...
