Black hole accretion and star formation as drivers of gas excitation and chemistry in Mrk231 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a full high resolution SPIRE FTS spectrum of the nearby ultraluminous infrared galaxy Mrk231. In total 25 lines are detected, including CO J=5-4 through J=13-12, 7 rotational lines of H2O, 3 of OH+ and one line each of H2O+, CH+, and HF.

Antibacterial Activity of Estragole From Ocimum tenuiflorum, and Tagetes lucida and Synergistic Effect With Meropenem and Tobramycin Against Multidrug- and Extensively Drug-Resistant (MDR-XDR) Gram-Negative Bacteria. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
This study reveals estragole's bactericidal activity against MDR/XDR Gram‐negative pathogens. Synergy with meropenem and tobramycin was observed in > 88% of strains, reducing antibiotic MICs up to 16‐fold. Estragole represents a promising therapeutic adjuvant to enhance antibiotic efficacy and combat antimicrobial resistance.

PDRs and XDRs [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2011
AbstractAn overview of the important thermal and chemical processes in “photon-dominated regions” or “photo-dissociation regions” (PDRs) and “X-ray dominated regions” (XDRs) is presented. Applications of the models are shown to observations of the ultra-luminous infrared galaxy Mrk 231, and the starburst galaxy M 82.

Activity of Semi-Synthetic Mulinanes against MDR, Pre-XDR, and XDR Strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yesMetabolites, 2021
Tuberculosis causes more than 1.2 million deaths each year. Worldwide, it is the first cause of death by a single infectious agent. The emergence of drug-resistant strains has limited pharmacological treatment of the disease and today, new drugs are urgently needed.

Review of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant TB: global perspectives with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global emergency and is responsible for 1.7 million deaths annually. Widespread global misuse of isoniazid and rifampicin over three decades has resulted in emergence of the ominous spread of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB ...

Phenotypic Investigation of Vancomycin, Teicoplanin and Linezolid Resistance Among Enterococcus spp. Isolated from Children Diarrhea

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, 2019
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci(VRE) were common among Enterococcus. faecalis and Enterococcus faecium. Teicoplanin resistance or sensitivity can determine the VRE phenotypes whether VanA (VanR/TecR) or VanB (VanR/TecS). Linezolid resistance among VRE
