Estimation and rapid identification of later stages during embryonic development of the oviparous lizard Sceloporus aeneus (Squamata: Phrynosomatidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 6, Page 1583-1598, June 2026.
Abstract Stages of embryonic development for reptiles have been presented in tables that may include all or part of embryonic development. When oviposition occurs in some lizards, embryos are already in the later stages of development; likewise, the size of the eggs increases as incubation time progresses.

Streptozotocin induced hyperglycemia in the axolotl

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 255, Issue 6, Page 567-584, June 2026.
Abstract Background Diabetes is a group of diseases characterized by loss of β cell mass and/or function, resulting in hyperglycemia. With no established curative treatment, this has initiated research in β cell regeneration. Current animal models have either limited regenerative capacity (mice) or small size and evolutionary distance from humans ...

Multi‐Omics Analyses Elucidate the Venom Components of the Wasp Vespa mandarinia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
The wasp Vespa mandarinia was widely reared in Yunnan province. The venom was responsible for their aggressive behavior. Tweety proteases, hyaluronidase, venom dipeptidyl peptidase 4, and phospholipase A1 and A2 isozyme were identified. In addition, organic heterocyclic compounds, organic acids, and derivatives were found.

Evolutionary Patterns of the Genes Involved in the Integrity and Segregation of Chromosomes in Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study identifies and characterizes the genes encoding cohesin and condensin complexes across Symphytan superfamilies, revealing their structural and functional roles with conserved motifs in maintaining genome stability. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that SMC genes originated from ancient duplication events, with notable gene loss (e.g., CAPG2 ...

Sex Determination in Sponges

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 93, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Sex determination in Porifera remains one of the least understood aspects of early metazoan biology despite the group's key phylogenetic position. Sponges display exceptional diversity in sexual systems—ranging from stable gonochorism to sequential hermaphroditism and sex reversal—yet lack morphological dimorphism and any discrete gonadal ...
